Diesel Mechanic

Under general supervision, work involves providing preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs on University vehicles including motor coach buses, cars, trucks, and vans. Performs routine maintenance with golf carts, water portable pumps, forklifts, generators, and other University equipment. Performs advanced level troubleshooting and maintenance and repairs on fuel related University equipment.

Essential Duties Summary

• Performs preventative, corrective, inspections, maintenance and repairs on University motor coach buses, cars, trucks, and vans. Performs preventive maintenance on golf carts, water portable pumps, forklifts, generators, and University fuel related equipment.
• Performs the advanced level troubleshooting and repairs on University fuel related equipment.
• Visually inspects building emergency back-up generators to ensure operational in the event of an emergency, and power outage or storm.
• Performs troubleshooting, analyze diagnostic test results, conducts maintenance inspections and repairs on vehicles, light and heavy machinery, engines, steering systems, brakes, transmission, electrical systems, and chassis.
• Performs equipment repairs on forklift, mules, portable generators, pressure washers, and water portable pumps and other University equipment as needed.
• Provides roadside emergency service and repairs when possible to prevent towing charges.
• Tests driving vehicles to gauge performance.
• Unloads trucks and operate forklift as needed.
• Completes purchase orders as needed.
• Routinely inspects cleans and prepares shop and makes necessary changes to ensures all equipment is in working condition for the following day.
• Performs preventative maintenance on service trucks.
• Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles and adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
• Maintain shop inventory.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range $26.46 - $33.74 Education

High School diploma, G.E.D., or technical training or seven (7) to ten (10) years related experience, including air conditioning, brake and electrical repairs on diesel engine motor coach buses.

Required Licensing/Certification

Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement

Certified forklift operator preferred.

• Technical expertise is required when determining equipment failure and repair options.

Work Experience

Seven (7) to ten (10) years related experience, including air conditioning, brake and electrical repairs on diesel engine motor coach buses.
