A Service Technician is responsible for providing service to our customers while maintaining exceptional customer service. This can include: cleaning, maintenance, visual inspection, and removal of parts and attachments. Installation with the help of proper manuals, report writing, disassembly, assembly, parts reuse evaluation, and reconditioning.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical service to vehicles and equipment.

  • Perform general and detailed repair of all trucks, engines and components.

  • Overhaul gas or diesel engines.

  • Install injectors, pistons, liners, cam shafts, cylinder heads, rod and main bearings, oil pans, clutches, fan hubs, differentials, fifth wheels, brakes, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts.

  • Read job order, observe and listen to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.

  • Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and make adjustments as needed.

  • Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired vehicle to verify conformance to specifications.

  • Tag all warranty parts and returns to warranty clerk.

  • Attend training classes and keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers to increase overall customer satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 5 years' experience as a Class 7 & 8 technician in a dealership or related truck service facility

Pay, benefits and more. * Ability to earn up to $34.35 per hour with experience, Master Certification, and including the 2nd shift differential * $4,000 in bonuses available * 2nd Shift, Monday - Friday * Full health insurance on day one * Life and disability insurance * Earn up to 15 days PTO over the course of your first year * 10 paid company holidays * 401(k) option with company match * Employee stock purchase plan * Education assistance What you'll do on a typical day: * Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of class 7 and 8 diesel equipment, forklifts and trailing equipment * Repair or rebuild all or parts of various equipment systems * Work in accordance with DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other rules and regulations * Conduct safety inspections on equipment and prepare safety documentation as needed * Maintain proficiency with equipment and technologies that enhance productivity * Move trailers throughout the property * Operate a hostler in all types of weather; safely walk and stand for extended periods of time What you need to succeed at XPO: At a minimum, you'll need: * 2 years of experience in general heavy truck repair for commercial fleet operations * To obtain EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS or equivalent) * A valid driver's license * Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC) * Your own hand tools for tractor-trailer repairs * Basic computer skills * Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends It'd be great if you also have: * Previous or current ASE certifications * Experience with trailer repair, diesel engine system diagnostics and preventive maintenance for tractor technicians * Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle air conditioning systems This job requires the ability to: * Lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and more than 75 lbs. occasionally * Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather * Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel Be part of something big. Eligible participants who are hired while the program is in effect will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus, subject to repayment if the employee voluntarily terminates their employment with XPO Logistics within the first 6 months. Bonuses are subject to all applicable taxes. All other rules governing this program will apply. Current XPO employees are not eligible for sign-on bonuses. A $1,000 retention bonus will be paid to those eligible participants who are hired while the program is in effect and attain 6 months of continuous employment with XPO Logistics in their current qualified position. Eligible participants who are hired while the program is in effect and attain 12 months of continuous employment in their current qualified position will receive another $1,000 bonus. Eligible participants who are hired while the program is in effect and attain 18 months of continuous employment in their current qualified position will receive another $1,000 bonus.
