POSITION SUMMARY: With direct supervision from a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager, a Maintenance Technician B performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks including, but not limited to, chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, hydraulic electrical, air brake systems, general engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drive train and steering systems. The Maintenance Technician B may also perform basic tire work, such as replacement, tire rotation, and tread depth checks.   • Maintains a working knowledge of, and moderate skill proficiency in, the following vehicle components and systems, with the ability to perform preventative and repair maintenance functions, both on-site and on the road.

  • Chassis component repair and maintenance.

  • Refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems; and air and hydraulic braking systems.

  • Engine repair and maintenance.

  • Suspension, drivetrain and steering systems.

  • Heating and air conditioning.

  • Performs line maintenance welding and fabrication.

  • Safely provides road service when necessary to ensure that the Company's equipment is returned to operation in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Identifies the source of the malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools.

  • Completes applicable Company training programs.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.

  • Basic understanding of work order labor time standards.

  • Prior experience with, or knowledge of, maintenance work to be performed on Classes 1-5 light/medium duty and heavy-duty Class 7-8 trucks, aircraft, or ships.

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications (T1-T8) are a plus but not required.

  • Commercial Driver's License is a plus but not required.

  • Valid Driver's License.


  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of both gasoline and diesel powered equipment diagnosis and repair or will be graduating from an accredited automotive college or technical school within the next 3 months.

  • Ability to perform basic inspections with limited supervision in some (not all required) of the following heavy truck, or automotive systems: suspensions & steering; general engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drive train, diesel emissions.

However, the pace is pretty quick around here, so you'll need to be prepared to keep up.</p><p>WE'RE LOOKING FOR….</p><p>An Intermediate Diesel Mechanic that will keep up our level of commitment to safety and customer service. Your main goal is to ensure our fleet of transporters are always available. As part of this role you will be ensuring all preventative maintenance and general repairs are completed in a timely manner and up to Carvana standards. The qualifying candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, goal-oriented, energetic, they must enjoy helping people, and must have the ability to interact/ communicate with all levels of the organization</p><p>SPECIFICALLY, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:</p><ul><li><p>General and preventative maintenance; including diagnostic testing, routine maintenance and determine a course of action for damaged parts and systems.</p></li><li><p>Resolve issues from inspections or scheduled repairs to include changing brakes, adjust steering systems, replace worn-out parts and change hydraulic components.</p></li><li><p>Complete preventative maintenance for equipment and inspect equipment to detect excessive wear</p></li><li><p>Responsible for parts inventory and equipment provided to complete the duties outlined for position</p></li><li><p>Maintain accurate records of each repair performed on assets using Maintenance Software</p></li><li><p>May perform other general duties as needed</p></li></ul><p>THE QUALIFYING CANDIDATE MUST HAVE:</p><ul><li><p>1+ year in Heavy Class 8 Mechanical Industry or experience in similar industry</p></li><li><p>One ASE Certification within the first 6 months of employment</p></li><li><p>Ability to work as a team player and interact with customers, managers, and coworkers in a professional and courteous manner</p></li><li><p>Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively</p></li><li><p>Mechanical aptitude; robust problem solving skills and attention to detail</p></li></ul><p>The Intermediate Diesel Mechanic will report to the Maintenance Manager, Logistics and will be an hourly full-time position. Some travel may be required.
