As a diesel technician at First, you would perform routine maintenance and repairs on school buses for Berlin School District.

Perform mechanic repair and ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs with moderate supervision on basic and advanced maintenance,
Maintain records of completed work on vehicles.
Diagnose and perform accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair.
Assist with road calls and emergency services as needed.

Qualifications

Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire) - We train!
ASE Certification preferred. Must participate in ASE testing program within 1 year (expected to have 3 ASE within 12 months of hire)
A minimum intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience.
Adhere to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards
Strong customer service skills and communication skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment
Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
Possess adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties maintained in a clean and safe manner

Fleet Maintenance Mechanic Major Responsibilities: Diagnose and perform accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under minimal supervision. Repairs include brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, and other repairs. Lead preventative maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections. Ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain records of all maintenance work completed including parts and supplies used. Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action is taken. Evaluate completed work prior to release and seek approval where required. Lead road calls and emergency services as necessary. Adhere to FirstGroup standards, policies, and procedures. Moves vehicles safely between job and work area. Perform other responsibilities as requested or required. Fleet Maintenance Mechanic Qualifications: A vocational or technical degree in vehicle maintenance is preferred. Valid driver's license required. 5+ years of automotive or diesel repair employment experience or combination of education & experience. Advanced diagnostics skills and mechanical knowledge are required. Must have appropriate mechanic's toolset. ASE certifications preferred.
