Matheson, Inc. is looking for an experienced Full Time Diesel Technician with extensive experience with diagnosis and repair on emissions systems in our Denver, CO shop to help us as we expand to new heights and support our growing Service and Repair operations.


  • Perform diagnostics on emission systems, after treatment systems, electronic engine controls systems including but not limited to DPF's, DOC's, SCR systems as well as exhaust gas recirculation systems

  • Ability and experience in running overheads adjusting valves, injectors, and rockers on Cummins ISX engines

  • Assist Shop Manager in day to day operations while continuing to effectively work on equipment as needed

  • Diagnoses mechanical failures and repair tractor and trailer components according to manufacturer specifications

  • Perform annual vehicle inspections, perform preventative maintenance based on pre-defined schedules

  • Perform brake jobs to include air brake overhauls, measure brake lining thickness, drums, s cam replacement, bushings, slack adjusters, and replace relay valves and air tanks

  • Diagnose, isolate and repair lighting system to include shorts and open circuits, cab repairs, steering problem diagnosis / repair, drive train component diagnosis and replacement, suspension diagnosis and repair

  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in reliable working order

  • Understand theory of operations and is capable of disassembling, assembling and troubleshooting all assigned products and systems

  • Use good judgment in managing time, providing timely effective communication with management and , co-workers, other technicians/mechanics and drivers

  • Communicate effectively with Shop Manager on repair/service time estimates, troubleshooting and status updates

  • Utilizes parts diagrams, computer and other resources to research problems, identify and locate parts

  • Perform starting and charging system diagnosis and repairs, cooling system diagnosis and repairs, routine electrical diagnosis and repairs, including the comprehension of common fault codes

  • Performs safety inspections on equipment and prepare safety documents required by DOT, company and any other Federal, State or Local regulations

  • Knowledge and ability to use specialized tools and precision measuring devices used by a variety of engine manufacturers

  • Perform complex diagnosis, repairs, modifications and specialized design and fabrication work

  • Ability to connect to truck with a laptop and use OEM diagnostic software

  • Efficiently assist shop manager in maintaining accurate parts inventory

  • Experience with Eaton ultra-shift automated transmissions a plus

  • Experience with natural gas fuel systems a plus

Compensation: Will Commensurate with experience.

A Mechanic Level 2 is responsible for removing and replacing repairable sub-assemblies and evaluates damaged and worn parts to determine reusability in rebuild. He plans assigned repair jobs and uses the work order system effectively. He also creates "4C" warranty explanations and mentors Level I mechanics. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES Administrative: * Understands the work order system and helps others learn to use this system * Accurately prepares service reports * Documents the 4 C's (Complaint, Cause, Correction, Complication) on work orders * Promotes a clean, organized, and safe work environment Organizational: * Applies 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Sweep, Standardize and Sustain) principles following every job Interpersonal: * Works effectively with others in the shop and helps build a strong teamwork environment.
