JOB SUMMARY (the purpose and general nature of the job):

Assemble precision metal forming die sets, interface with internal and external customers, and recommend machine design and improvements to engineering. Work closely with die set machining vendors to ensure quality standards and on time delivery.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following:

Die Set Assembly: Assemble capital equipment consisting of high precision metal forming die sets with tolerances of +/- .0005". Die set assembly requires advanced knowledge of pipe fitting, pneumatics, hydraulics, fabrication, tool & die design, and metal forming characteristics.

Requires meeting management deadlines and performance expectations. The mechanical assembler is required to operate mobile equipment in a safe manner. Problem solving skills are required in die set tooling interaction to achieve product specifications.

Failure to have this skill will result in not meeting deadlines. Work closely with customers' representative for customer sign-off on new and rebuild die sets. Vendor Management: Work closely with die set machining vendor on a daily basis to ensure on-time delivery.

Duties include: making sure the vendor has all parts, fasteners, materials, engineering documentation, and instruction to complete die set machining order; buyoff finished die set to ensure quality according to established company standards and engineering design. Requires daily phone calls to vendor and minimum weekly trips to check on order status. Answer questions to vendor regarding blueprint interpretation and machining practices.

Field Service: Occasional domestic and international travel to customer and vendor companies to troubleshoot, rebuild, overhaul, and/or inspect new and used die sets.

Application Engineering: Work closely with engineering to redesign, improve, and expand upon existing and new design concepts.

Recommend design improvements ranging from cost benefits, safer designs, increased production, ease of maintenance, longevity of equipment, and new technology. Participate and contribute in design review meeting with management and engineering. Answer product design, function questions from internal and external customers.

Skilled Trades: Including machinist capable of using drill press, surface grinder, mill, band saw, lathe, grinders, and precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks), fabrication, and welding.

Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Minimal requirements for education, knowledge and experience:

Education

High School Equivalency (required), AAS in engineering (electrical/mechanical)/auto mechanics (preferred), AA in Tool and Die (preferred)

Experience

Complex mechanical assembly that requires blue print reading - 1 yr exp (required), 3-5 yr exp (preferred), tool and die background (preferred) with a minimum of 5 years' experience, experience with tolerancing +/-.0005

Other

Blue print reading (required), Microsoft Office, CMM (preferred), 3-D CAD (preferred), Able to read precision measuring instruments (required).

  • Skilled Trades knowledge/training is a plus Including machinist capable of using drill press, surface grinder, mill, band saw, lathe, grinders, and precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks).

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:

  • Work schedule generally consists of 40 hours per week, which may include on-call status, evenings, and/or weekends.

  • Travel (30% domestic/international, required)

  • Must be able to obtain a valid passport

  • Must have valid driver's license

  • Must be able to obtain mobile equipment license.

  • Lifting requirements up to 75 lbs,
