The PCA will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the RN with clinical tasks, including, but not limited to glucometry, EKGs, and vital signs.

  • Responding to the needs of patients and family members and takes a proactive role in the efficient operation of the unit.

Additional Dialysis PCA responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of dialysis equipment and supplies to ensure equipment functions safely, effectively and in a state of high operational readiness in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by BWH and regulatory bodies including CMS and AAMI.

  • Cleans, disinfects dialysis related equipment in accordance with policies and procedures

  • Transports equipment to various hospital and floors when necessary to assist the RN providing treatment with needed equipment.

  • Under the direction of biomedical engineering monitors water quality, including collecting water and dialysate samples following procedures related to ensuring water quality per policy.

  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of all disinfection and machine care procedures.

  • Additional duties as assigned by the dialysis leadership.

To qualify you must have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Certification as a nursing assistant required upon hire, unless incumbent is a nursing student who has completed her/his fundamentals of nursing with a clinical component (clinical rotation or simulation lab). For nursing students hired as PCAs, strongly prefer nursing students enrolled in BSN programs or direct-entry Masters' programs.

  • Bi-lingual skills preferred.

  • Prior experience in a clinical setting preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • May not currently hold a valid nursing license.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the Red Cross required upon hire.

  • Previous experience in a dialysis setting preferred.

The Staff Nurse will be responsible for: * Providing care for patients in the dialysis unit. * Working collaboratively to provide excellent care to patients and families in the safest environment. To qualify you must have: * Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration in Massachusetts. For external candidates Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required, for internal candidates, Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred. * Experience: Current, hemodialysis experience required. Prefer current inpatient hemodialysis experience. Prefer outpatient hemodialysis experience. * Other: Membership in professional organizations is recommended and certification in a specialty area is encouraged. * Able to work weekend rotation per the MNA contract as well as fulfill on-call requirement.
