The Dialysis Experienced Nurse Educator (RN) provides initial and ongoing training and education for facility staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom training for patient care staff who do not have previous dialysis experience.

  • Verify new staff competencies before they are independently assigned new tasks.

  • Oversee preceptor program and report progress.

  • Provide training to all staff for any new policy and procedures used in the clinic.

  • After a state or federal survey, provide training for any deficiencies identified during the survey.

  • Ensure new hires complete education module training within 30 days of hire.

  • Ensure annual compliance for education modules assigned to staff are completed on time.

  • Provide annual competency testing of all patient care staff, and if needed, provide additional training to any staff who does not meet the requirements.

  • Annually, perform audits for all assigned clinics for medical records, infection control, and a regulatory audit and develop a corrective plan for any deficiencies.

  • Ensure any non-certified PCTs test for certification within 12 months of hire.

If any driving responsibilities are assigned, employee is required to maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN, AA, diploma).

  • One year dialysis experience required.

  • Current state Registered Nurse license.

  • Current CPR/AED certification.

The Dialysis Home Program Registered Nurse (RN) educates and cares for our home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients, following up with them on a regular basis. The Dialysis Home Hemo RN also assists in the ongoing development of the local home training program. This position is full time. Responsibilities * Assists in the examination and evaluation of patient candidates so that appropriate PD or Home treatment and other services can be arranged. * Train patients and family who have chosen peritoneal dialysis or home hemodialysis as their treatment modality. * Provides counseling and emotional support. * Check dialysis equipment and ensure it is operating properly, make adjustments, or have them made by maintenance personnel. * Teach the patients proper care between dialysis to avoid infections, and instruct patients on matters of diet. * Keep comprehensive records of the schedule and type of treatment and changes in the condition of the patient. * Check in with the patient at least monthly by phone or during clinic visits. * Obtain routine laboratory work to include routine adequacy testing. * Make surveillance of the patient's home adaption, including provisions for visits to the home. * Ensure the patient is provided consultation with a Social Worker and Dietitian. #DCI Qualifications * A Registered Nurse with a current license in the state of New York. * At least 12 months clinical experience required. * Must have at least 3 months experience in Peritoneal Dialysis or Home Hemodialysis.
