PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Implement the special education assessment process. Assess the educational needs of BISD students. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.
Assist as a member of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee in the appropriate educational placement of the child for special education services, in annual review of this placement, in continual support to the classroom teacher receiving the child, and in dismissing a child from the program when the child no longer requires these services.

Education/Certification:
Master's degree
Diagnostician Certification
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of current assessment techniques
Effective interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years teaching experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Management
Evaluate students' progress on a regular, systematic basis, and use the findings to make instructional programs and services more effective.
Assist in the implementation of modifications required for special education students in the regular classroom.
Assist teachers in designing learning experiences for students.
Effectively interpret the philosophy and rationale for special education services to campus level staff through in-service, staff meetings, and conferences.
School/Organizational Climate
Share responsibility for ensuring confidentiality of pupil folders and for the continual updating of the confidential audit folders.
Provide consultation to all staff members working with pupils receiving special services.
Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community.
Employ an effective communication process that includes listening to all constituents.
Ensure confidentiality for student information.
School/Organizational Improvement
Assess and respond to needs related to one's job responsibilities.
Develop (as necessary), maintain, and utilize appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of the school's/district's and overall school improvement efforts.
Personnel Management
Demonstrate skill in coaching staff/peers; provide technical assistance to the instructional staff concerning the teaching/learning process.
Provide input relative to personnel, strengths, and weaknesses in various instructional arrangements.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities
Maintain accurate data for departmental reporting purposes.
Maintain complete and accurate audit files.
Meet timelines as indicated by state and federal mandates.
Complete forms according to department guidelines.
Implement policies and procedures as established.
Accept completed referrals and discuss current needs of the student prior to testing.
Promptly assess students referred for special education.
Effectively coordinate the scheduling of ARD meetings.
Interpret test scores to the ARD committee in such a way that all members understand the nature of the student's strengths and weaknesses.
Make recommendations for meeting the instructional needs of students based on assessment information.
Provide further assessment for students when appropriate.
Promptly complete referral information on students in need of psychological/medical testing or evaluation by related service personnel.
Student Management
Develop and communicate school guidelines for student conduct effectively to students, staff, and parents.
Promote collaborative teaming by working with faculty and encouraging student/parent input to develop a more positive school climate.
Enhance feedback skills by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning vital issues.
School/Community Relations
Emphasize and nurture two-way communication between the school and the community.
Involve students, parents, and others from the community in serving the school's program as volunteers, advisors, and aides.
Professional Growth and Development
Conduct oneself in a professional, ethical manner, in accordance with generally accepted community standards.
Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job
Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.
