Summary:To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer Radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field.

The following meet these requirements: (l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as Radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes Radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as Radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). (A copy of your ARRT certification must be submitted with your application) Computed Tomography (CT): This specialty modality requires specific knowledge of cross sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral, and/or, multi-slice computer tomography, inclusive of 3-D reconstruction scans, including drainage, biopsies, and peripheral vascular examinations. The technologist requires specific knowledge and training in the location, appearance, and function of the various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination; to interpret the examination request accurately; to understand the functioning and inter-relationship of the various organs; to use the methods and techniques which will identify organs appearing on the digital display monitor, or on film, and the various stages of the examination to judge the acceptability of the image and/or scan for diagnostic use and to emphasize the aspects of particular interest to the physician.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-08 Grade Level: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level; performing various types of routine and non-routine specialized radiological exams; uses radiation safety measures and protection devices in compliance with regulations; plans, directs, controls and evaluates the effectiveness of the medical imaging; performs daily required calibration and records appropriate performance to ensure quality control; evaluates the exam order and prepares the CT suits; provides education and assessment to the patient; prepares and administers the contrast medium; documents the procedure; treatment, dose and patient information; retrieves labs values from RPMS, assess BUN and Creatinine levels; and reviews image quality, optimally the anatomic region, archives and sends the exam for interpretation; x-ray exams; prepares and administers radiographic exams on patients needing plain film radiographs. GS-09 Grade Level: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level; examples of specialized experience: independently performing a full range of advanced computerized tomography examines involving special and complicated procedures; receives and reviews requests from physicians and other health care providers for CT examinations of patients and determines the condition(s) and proper procedure and equipment in accordance with required protocol for the type and level of imaging requested.
