POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES Provides comprehensive health care to a population that has multiple health care needs in the Detention Health Care setting for University Health System. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Must have completed training in an ACGME approved and accredited residency program.

Completion of residency program from the time of graduation from medical school in excess of the traditional time period for the practice specialty must be fully explained in writing. All incumbents will be expected to be board certified in their specialty or be eligible for board certification. Must obtain board certification in accordance with Medical-Dental Staff bylaws.

LICENSUREMust possess current license to practice medicine in the State of Texas. Must maintain current AHA BLS or higher in accordance with Medical-Dental Staff bylaws. Providers practicing in acute care environment must obtain AHA ACLS certification or advanced specialty equivalent as defined by the CMA Credentials Committee within 90 days of hire.

Must maintain DEA and DPS numbers. Must follow rules/regulations as set forth by the Texas Medical Board Medical Practice Act.

The SCI Staff Physician works closely with medical staff from a number of other services to ensure patients are receiving the best and most appropriate care. This involves collaborating with colleagues in developing, implementing, and evaluating objectives, policies, and standards essential for delivering optimal care to patient As required. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Provide inpatient medical care and outpatient primary and specialty care in multidisciplinary environment within the SCI Service. Admit, evaluate, diagnose and treat Veterans appropriate to the specialty of SCI medicine. Perform specialty procedures as delineated in their clinical privileges. Complete documentation and clinical reminders in a timely manner. Provide education to patients, families and caregivers. Collaborate with other staff physicians to provide clinical supervision and instructions to residents, fellows, medical students and allied health professional students as required. Attend staff meetings as may be required or directed by the Chief of the Service. Other duties as required or assigned by the Service Chief.
