Job Summary:

The Office of Informatics and Information Technology is looking for an outstanding DevOps Engineer II to contribute to their growing Azure Platform and support its infrastructure growth. Reporting to the Cloud Infrastructure Manager and working under the direction of the integrated Platform X Team, the DevOps Engineer II is responsible for introducing processes, tools, and methodologies which supports the needs of the software development lifecycle, from coding and deployment to maintenance and updates. The DevOps Engineer II will also be responsible for the deployment, modification, and configuration of existing open-source software tools to improve access to research datasets. The incumbent will demonstrate their experience as a seasoned DevOps Engineer II by implementing continuous integration and continuous delivery of pipelines through various tools such as Terraform and Ansible. As a key member of the integrated Platform X Team, the role of this DevOps engineer will also be responsible for troubleshooting issues that arise, configuring logging & alerting mechanism, and engineering solutions for complex infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will have a solid work ethic and bring an enthusiastic and professional attitude to the workplace.

This position is funded by the UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research and the Clinical and Translational Science Award and contributes to the informatics of the project.

Responsibilities:

Designs, integrates, delivers, and provides day-to-day maintenance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met. Provides operational support of applications or services, development operations (DevOps), through automation an/or infrastructure as code. Provides day-to-day maintenance and long-term assistance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met.

  • 10% Communicates and coordinates with staff related to the project and/or system
  • 30% Develops, programs, and/or deploys automation workflows for deployment, configuration, and/or monitoring of systems/services
  • 10% Manages and maintains automation tools and infrastructure, including security configurations
  • 30% Performs integration, migration, configuration, and security of existing applications and services into automated infrastructures
  • 5% Participates in code development, app deployment, and infrastructure maintenance and creates documentation to specify the back-end features.
  • 5% Analyses new technologies for improvements and upgrades, identifies better testing practices for deployments, and integrates CD/CI wherever possible
  • 5% Takes part in planning to share knowledge and learn about regarding system risks, cost vs. revenue ratios, and emerging cloud infrastructure capabilities
  • 5% Mentors junior staff, engages in group building activities, and works as a team member

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 2 years of professional work experience as a DevOps Engineer

  • 2 years of cloud infrastructure development or work

  • 2 years of professional work experience developing software

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred:

  • 2 years of Java development experience

  • 1 year of experience with Azure and Azure App Service

  • 1 year of experience with Terraform

  • 1 year of configuration management such as Ansible

  • Knowledge of Jira Atlassian Tools

  • 2 years of Agile or iterative work planning

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. An on campus location will be provided should a candidate prefer to work fully or partially onsite.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 24 month appointment.

This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $100,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $100,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
