Job Summary

Saint-Gobain is looking for a driven, talented, and energetic Development/Application Engineer to join our current team in Garden Grove, California. This position has a focus on new product development, product design and testing related to the group's technical R&D and engineering activities, thereby building technical depth in multiple areas. The position will report to the Engineering Group Leader.

This position will focus on expanding and growing the business through:

  • New product development and product design (Polymer Components, Seals, Composites and Systems).

  • Improvement of processes and products (material and design)

  • Designing, executing, and analysing lab experiments to validate new products, and presenting the results in a professional way

  • Incumbent should be able to design new test rigs and fixtures according to testing requirements.

  • Collaborating with and technically supporting Marketing, Sales and Operations.

  • Close collaboration with the customer, understanding unmet needs.

This position is subject to export controls under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified applicants for the position must meet the ITAR definition of "U.S. Person" at 22 C.F.R. 120.15 as a: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual (including for example refugees and asylees).

Required Qualifications

Essential Functions

Design and develop new products, conduct testing and new product validation. Design parts using SolidWorks or other software. Design experiments, analyze and present results. Develop test procedures and routines. Operate lab equipment needed for assigned projects. Project lead and management for assigned activities. Communicate with business and customer.

Maintain existing equipment in working condition and perform testing as requested by supervisor and other members of the group. Able to help troubleshoot equipment and maintain an EHS and 5S environment.

Manage and document projects under minimal supervision by a technical leader or direct manager. Provide data and results in oral and written form. Includes generating of project timelines/plans, technical memos, research reports, and presentations to internal customers, project teams, and/or management.

Technical support (testing, failure analysis, quality improvements) for operations, sales & marketing, and design engineering across different Seals locations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Material Science or Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Polymer Science or equivalent is required. Master's Degree in engineering is preferred.

  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in a R&D capacity/lab and design environment is required.

  • Strong technical, application and personal selling skills, along with some technical and working knowledge of internal product manufacture are also necessary.

Practical/Technical Knowledge

  • Demonstrated Project Management skills

  • Microsoft Office

  • SolidWorks or similar CAD experience

  • Team oriented, results oriented

  • Well organized with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to clearly communicate in oral and written form

  • Ability and desire to learn, troubleshoot and problem solve

  • Ability to maintain and operate complex testing equipment

  • Ability to push/pull/lift lab equipment weighing up to 30lbs

Additional Description

Certain states require pay information be provided in job postings. Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees' wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates and provide the national pay range for this position which is $79,500 to $123,400 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 10% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $85,100 to $132,100. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
