Job Purpose

The goal of Special Projects is to improve and enhance Honda product appeal, product quality, and corporate image.

This role provides engineering expertise (design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing/construction and maintenance) for product requests from groups that do not have an engineering function or require additional engineering expertise. This position takes a leading role in managing engineering activities in support of Engineering, Special Tools, Marketing, PR, and Corporate Social Responsibility and supports maintenance -ability evaluations for Honda and Acura vehicles. Responsibilities include support for pre-production and mass production products as well as conceptualizing custom or prototype designs for Honda product lines: Honda Auto/Acura, Motorcycle, Power Equipment, Marine.

Key Accountabilities:

• Fabrication and prototyping: Work with internal and external customers to gather and clarify objectives and requirements, then develop high-quality, creative solutions (tools and other products) to aid in repairs, manufacturing, diagnosis, and other purposes.

• Model (3D) and create technical drawings to communicate and document parts with internal and external parties. Maintains revision history for all related parts.

• Special Projects: Project leadership and fabrication for special product and/or vehicle development to support Honda's corporate image and corporate alliances. Manage project schedules/timelines and project budgets.

• Quality/Test Engineering: provide expertise for developing and/or executing testing.

• Confirmation of product concern/symptom

• Confirmation of countermeasure effectiveness

• Development of testing equipment and procedures

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

Education:

• BS in engineering or equivalent 6-8 years' work experience in fabrication, automotive/powersports engineering, and/or repair.

Minimum Experience:

• Expertise in custom design, fabrication, diagnostics and repair.

• Experience with Honda/Acura products strongly desired.

Other Job-Specific Skills:

• High proficiency in use of fabrication shop tools, interpretation of engineering drawings, and use of precision measurement equipment.

• High proficiency in CNC programming and the operation of related tools.

• Solidworks and MasterCAM, or equivalent, experience is required.

• Working knowledge of computer programs including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

• Excellent written and oral communication, problem-solving, and presentation skills.

• Effective project management experience with multiple, concurrent projects.

• Effective and accurate designs, test results, technical advice, prototypes, and other hands-on technical contributions to internal and external customers.
