The Development Officer, based at WfWI's headquarters in Washington, D.C., works as an integral part of WfWI's Marketing, Development & Communications unit (MD&C), and plays a critical role in ensuring the success of a growing individual giving program. This passionate and enthusiastic fundraiser will manage a personal portfolio and serve as the Development lead on a mass stewardship program with personal touches for multiple segments of mid-level and major gift donors and prospects. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic and comprehensive cultivation and stewardship program for some of our most loyal partners investing or capable of investing between $1,000 and $10,000 annually. Through this nascent program often termed the "mid-level giving program" internally the Development Officer drives the growth of both sustained mid-level giving and the major gifts pipeline by collaborating with members of the Development and Marketing teams to develop engagement opportunities, stewardship materials, and targeted marketing and upgrade strategies. This position serves as the lead strategist for mid-level giving engagement and partners with colleagues to ensure meaningful and consistent donor engagement for mid-level and major gift donors and prospects. This position can expect to have frequent public contact as the face of the WfWI mid-level giving program, with regular outreach to and contact with donors comprising a large part of the role's responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Development, creates and implements an annual plan and budget for a multi-segment mid-level donor program designed to meet the fundraising needs of WfWI, collaborating with the Director of Marketing, vendors, and other members of the team as appropriate.
Personally manages a caseload of approximately 500-600 US-based mid-level donors to maximize annual revenue.
Works closely with the Director of Development and Major Gifts Officer to facilitate the transition of relationships between mid-level and major gifts management and, as appropriate, assists in the cultivation of potential major donors and planned giving prospects.
Participates in and plays a coordinating role in monthly portfolio meetings focused on plans for cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of mid-level and major donors.
Builds relationships with mid-level donors via phone calls, personalized email communications, ongoing written contact, and events.
Develops outreach plans that demonstrate appreciation, recognition, and engagement of mid-level donors and prospects.
Develops and drives the implementation of innovative, multi-channel strategies for mid-level acquisition, retention, and upgrade, working closely with MD&C colleagues, as appropriate.
Collaborates across teams on creative design, messaging, and data segmentation for mid-level mailings.
Analyzes mid-level donor program revenue trends throughout the year to assess results and interprets data to recommend and implement appropriate changes to targets or adjustments in strategies.
Works with Director of Development to forecast mid-level program revenue and expenses.
Act as primary contact for inquiries from mid-level donors, tracking donor interactions in Salesforce in an accurate and timely manner.
Collaborates closely with WfWI country staff and WfWI fundraising leaders to ensure meaningful donor engagement and education.
Serves as subject matter expert on mid-level donor management and keeps abreast of industry best-practices.
As needed, manages the execution of curated, intimate individual giving events for donors in the mid-level and major gifts pipelines, as well as the execution of VIP experiences around other WfWI activities led by Development & External Engagement.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field required.
Three to five years of mid-level or major donor experience with an emphasis on balancing both a mass stewardship program that feels personal and a portfolio of high-touch relationships. Experience with multi-channel donor engagement preferred.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain meaningful and successful supporter relationships.
Demonstrated ability to develop successful strategies for donor recruitment and retention.
Demonstrated ability to produce program and project documentation, such as strategy documents, creative briefs, project plans, wrap-up reports, KPI reports.
Strong knowledge of and experience with complex data segmentation for fundraising programs preferred.
Organized, detail-oriented, creative with problem-solving skills and strong analytical skills, who is comfortable working in a high energy, fast paced environment.
Collaborative team player able to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as appropriate, moving projects from conceptual stages to launch while handling multiple or even competing deadlines.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to handle pressure and deadlines calmly and to communicate with diplomacy.
Previous development experience with an international non-profit preferred.
Excellent computer skills including proficiency using MS Office, with extensive knowledge of Excel preferred.
Familiarity with donor databases preferred; Salesforce experience strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of the mission and messaging of Women for Women International.
