About the Opportunity

The Development team works to secure the philanthropic resources necessary to advance the Foundation's mission through its programs and operations. The team works closely with volunteers and colleagues from across the organization to present the Foundation's case for support through gifts, grants, and sponsorships. Team members collaborate to maximize engagement and giving from individual donors and institutional funders alike.

Reporting to the Managing Director, CGI Sponsorships and serving as a key member of the Development team, this position advances the mission of the Clinton Foundation through the engagement and solicitation of institutional funders, primarily corporations and private foundations. Specifically, this includes the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of an assigned portfolio of existing and prospective funders, with the goal of significantly increasing sponsorship revenues primarily in support of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U).

Core Responsibilities

Cultivation and Solicitation

  • Initiates and closes gifts, grants, and sponsorships, primarily from a portfolio of existing and prospective institutional funders (i.e., corporations and foundations) to meet or exceed annual revenue goals.

  • Works with Senior Development Manager, Prospect Research & Portfolio Management to develop a robust proposal pipeline of qualified potential funders and continuously prospects for significant new funding opportunities/fits with CGI and CGI U's needs and priorities.

  • Under the guidance of the Managing Director and in collaboration with CGI and CGI U program staff, creates creative and compelling opportunities for institutional funders to support the initiative.

  • Assists in the preparation of briefing materials, sponsorship decks including advising on sponsorship levels, necessary reports/data, and/or other presentation materials for Managing Director, CDO, CGI CEO and other executives for meetings with prospective funders.

  • Works with Senior Grant Writer to scope, edit and finalize proposals for donors

  • Maintains accurate, timely, and comprehensive records in CRM database, including key contacts, decision-makers/influencers, interactions, next steps, prospect plans, tracking of proposals, commitments, reporting requirements, and other stewardship activity.

Prospect Research and Analysis

  • Continuously identifies opportunities to grow the pipeline of prospective institutional funders/sponsors. Establishes requisite processes - in collaboration with program and Development colleagues - to identify and qualify prospective funders for CGI, CGI U and, opportunistically, for other Foundation priorities.

  • Evaluates and qualifies new leads/prospects through research and discussion with colleagues, leadership, and program staff.

Grants Management and Stewardship

  • Manages stewardship plan for assigned funders/sponsors to include both personal contact and updates from relevant funder staff and partners and works creatively to identify new stewardship opportunities.

  • Works with Managing Director, CGI, and CGI U staff so that benefits in funding agreements are fulfilled and committed funds are paid in a timely manner.

Event Support and Other Administrative

  • Participates in CGI and CGI U events, as needed, including some travel both internationally and domestically.

  • Supports Development, CGI and CGI U teams with on-site services for sponsors including VIP scheduling and briefing, reserved seating, staffing of VIP meetings and dinners, and other additional duties as required.

  • Collaborates with CGI and CGI U staff to understand projects, priorities, and to identify new funding opportunities.

  • Keeps current on news, trends, and best practices associated with Foundation grants and grantmaking opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelors' Degree required

  • At least 7 years of professional experience in the field in positions of increasing responsibility, with at least 2-3 of those years must have included either managing people or managing projects to completion. This should include at least 4 years of event sponsorship and sales, institutional giving, grant writing/proposal development in a similar role at an organization of comparable size and complexity.

  • Demonstrated success in closing gifts/grants for event/program sponsorship, as well as proven ability to effectively build relationships with medium-to-large corporations and foundations required.

  • Portfolio management experience and working within complex organizations beneficial.

  • Proficient with CRM systems, MSOffice, and Internet required.

  • Knowledge of relevant analytical and research tools; and grant databases beneficial

  • Ability to work in a varying schedule including nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, and work on multiple time zones, as necessary.

Compensation & Benefits

Our best estimate of the compensation range for this opportunity is $92 - 102K annually, depending on the experience you bring. This role is not eligible for overtime pay. This range is based on NYC market rates and may be adjusted if you will be working remotely.
