Duties

The Office of the Chief Development Officer (OCDO) provides guidance to DFC on development impact goals and metrics as well as contributing to policy initiatives essential to the US government that are related to development impact and its effects on foreign policy. The OCDO works closely with the DFC financing departments, the Office of Development Impact and the Office of the President, as well as other parts of the US government on various initiatives.

As a Development Impact and Policy Analysis Intern, students will have the opportunity to apply their training in development, economics, and/or international finance, combining both private and public sector interests. Interns will assess policy options, perform basic market research, and analyze the development effects of potential investments in emerging markets. Additional responsibilities include preparing input for briefing papers for US government initiatives and meetings, researching international development challenges, assessing economic risks. The intern will also perform certain administrative duties as needed including those related to OCDO development of or participation in conferences, travel planning and other tasks for the team as needed. Internship participants will have the opportunity to learn about transactions across a wide variety of DFC's product lines an develop valuable skills and relationships.

This is an internship that will last approximately 12 weeks, but can be extended provided the applicant is an enrolled student in an undergraduate or graduate program.

Qualifications

Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university pursuing an undergraduate or master's program studying economics, finance, international relations, development policy, or other related subjects. Successful completion of a background investigation is also required. Strong written, research and oral communication skills are required.

PASS/FAIL COURSES:

If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
