JOIN (joinpdx.org) is a 30-year-old non-profit organization that exists to support the efforts of individuals and families experiencing homelessness to transition off the streets and into permanent housing. We are inspired by the vision of a community where everyone has a place to call home. With a $10-million annual operating budget, JOIN supported 1,840 individuals transitioning into permanent housing or striving to keep their current housing last year.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a development professional who has experience working on issues related to poverty, homelessness and/or racial equity to perform a wide range of development and communication activities. This position is responsible for all private revenue raised at JOIN, manages JOIN's development operations and fundraising activities, supports the efforts of the Deputy Director and Finance Director, and supervises the Development Associate.

$80,000 - $110,000 DOE

Full-time exempt position with option for 100% employer paid medical & dental benefits for employees and all dependents, employer paid long and short term disability benefit, employer paid $50,000 life insurance, EAP, flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care, unmatched 403(b), holiday pay, 160 hours PTO, 10 paid holidays plus paid winter break shutdown, 8 hours/month paid community involvement opportunity, paid bereavement leave, paid trauma leave, and an 8 week paid sabbatical after 7 years of employment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Development Duties

  • This role will lead the development team and other leadership to collectively raise $1.3M annually with aims toward sustainable growth to $2.5M annually.

  • Act as a primary liaison and support to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors regarding all fundraising activities.

  • Drive the strategy and implementation of JOIN's Annual Development Plan, focused on targeted support from individual donors, donor-advised funds, gifts of stocks, corporate sponsorships, and regular grant cycles.

  • Manage JOIN's Major Donor program, including creating and implementing major donor stewardship strategies and techniques.

  • Develop a planned giving strategy to share with Join's current and prospective supporters.

  • The Development Director is responsible for managing a robust portfolio of 1,200+ individual and 70+ business donors, identifying, cultivating, and stewarding them through various means, including events, one-on-one visits, site visits, appeals, campaigns, etc.

  • Manage grant calendar, write 20+ foundation and corporate grants and reports, and perform targeted grant research.

  • Prospect and build relationships with 4-5 new grant funders annually, and/or seek increased investment from existing funders.

  • Support grant activities to meet deliverables of proposals, support staff in developing tracking mechanisms for grant reporting

  • The Development Director will plan and execute all of Join's signature fundraising events, including two major fundraising events and smaller cultivation events throughout the year.

  • Manage and supervise monthly audits between Quickbooks and donor databases.

  • Responsible for all private revenue reports used in the annual organization-wide audit.

  • Support Deputy Director and Program Director in negotiating government contracts to cover program expenses

  • Supervise and support the development team, including a fundraising strategy to increase team capacity

  • Supervise production of donor correspondence including gift acknowledgments, thank you's, and tax letters

  • Support individual supporters, participants, and Board members in developing individual donor fundraising skills

Communication Duties:

  • Support a culture of ethical storytelling among staff and leadership at JOIN.

  • Produce and/or draft copy for engaging fundraising materials, newsletters, annual report, collateral materials, and email updates.

  • Represent JOIN in the community; facilitate and participate in public speaking opportunities.

  • Manage organizational website content and ongoing updates.

  • Manage relationships with contractors/vendors re: graphic design, website management, email marketing, printing, database management, etc.

  • Assist with the development and management of media list and relations.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of non-profit development experience, with at least 2 years of supervisory duties

  • Demonstrated ability to raise $1.3M annually.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion, supporting JOIN's goal of becoming an anti-racist organization.

  • Understand the anti-racist implications for fundraising and how to center anti-racism in fundraising practices.

  • Support and nurture a diverse and inclusive environment where all people feel welcomed.

  • Strong writing, editing and organizational skills.

  • Microsoft Office Suite software and google platform proficiency.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with Customer Relations Management software

  • Experience working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

  • Enthusiasm for fundraising.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Critical and creative thinking ability.

  • Highly organized.

  • Ability to work with websites and social media platforms, including WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram.

  • Familiarity with QuickBooks, Adobe Creative Suite, and donor management software.

  • Must be equally comfortable working independently and as a member of a team.

  • Previous work with the media is a plus.
