Job Summary/Basic Function

As a university fundraiser specializing in corporations and foundations, this candidate's primary responsibility is to cultivate and steward relationships with corporate entities and philanthropic foundations and to secure funding and support for various initiatives, programs, and projects within the university. This role will also strategically identify and engage potential corporate and foundation partners, develop compelling proposals, and manage ongoing relationships to maximize financial contributions and foster long-term partnerships. The ideal candidate will be someone who is committed to advancing the university's mission through strategic partnerships and philanthropic support.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Management: Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with corporate entities and philanthropic foundations. Identifying decision-makers and stakeholders within target organizations. Developing personalized cultivation strategies tailored to the interests and priorities of each prospect.

  • Fundraising Strategy: Collaborating with university leadership to develop fundraising strategies and priorities aligned with institutional goals. Researching and assessing funding opportunities from corporations and foundations that align with the university's mission and strategic objectives. Developing comprehensive fundraising plans and timelines to achieve fundraising goals.

  • Proposal Development: Creating compelling grant proposals, sponsorship packages, and partnership opportunities tailored to the interests and priorities of corporate and foundation donors. Collaborating with university faculty, staff, and administrators to gather relevant data, metrics, and programmatic information to support proposals. Ensuring proposals are clear concise, and effective at communicating the impact and benefits of funding initiatives.

  • Grant Management: Managing the grant application process, including proposal submission, follow-up communications, and reporting requirements. Coordinating with university departments to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and reporting deadlines. Providing regular updates and progress reports to donors on the use and impact of their contributions.

  • Networking and Outreach: Attending relevant conferences, events, and networking opportunities to expand the university's visibility and establish connections with potential donors. Utilizing professional networks and affiliations to identify new funding prospects and partnership opportunities. Collaborating with other university fundraisers and the development team members to leverage resources and share best practices.

  • Donor Stewardship: Developing and implementing stewardship plans to acknowledge and recognize corporate and foundation donors. Providing personalized communication and engagement opportunities to maintain donor relationships and encourage continued support. Seeking feedback from donors to understand their philanthropic interests and preferences and adjusting strategies accordingly. Attending and supporting all Development and Alumni Relations events and other appropriate university events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or corporate partnerships, preferably within a higher education or nonprofit environment.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex concepts and initiatives in a clear and compelling manner.

  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute fundraising plans to achieve measurable results.

  • Detail oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in database management and fundraising software preferred.

  • Knowledge of philanthropic trends, corporate social responsibility practices, and grant-making processes.

  • Commitment to the university's mission and values, with a passion for higher education and its role in society.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as fundraising, nonprofit management, communications, or business administration).

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree or certification in fundraising or a related field is preferred.
