JOB SUMMARY: Yakima Valley Museum is looking for a motivated professional to help expand the community impact of the Museum and support our mission through administering and supporting all aspects of the Museum's Development Program.

ABOUT THE MUSEUM: Founded in 1952, the Yakima Valley Museum provides residents and visitors with engaging and educational exhibits and programs on central Washington's cultural and natural history. The Museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, and with a 65,000 square foot facility, is one of the largest cultural history museums in the state.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

This position is responsible for providing administrative support for the development program and assists the Executive Director with the management of all fundraising activities including donor relations including cultivation of donors, stewardship of foundations, corporations, memberships, grant writing and annual campaign activities. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Development:

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, support in the planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and fundraising for the museum.

  • Provide general management for the individual membership, annual appeal, special gift campaigns, foundation grants, and special program sponsorships.

  • With the Executive Director, set fundraising goals and objectives and development plan.

  • Manage donor database including:

  • Accurate data entry

  • Detailed gift processing and acknowledgments

  • Donor file maintenance

  • Fundraising reporting as needed

  • Research and identify potential corporate and individual donors.

  • Supervise membership promotion including renewals and membership drives.

  • Work with Visitor Services Manager on membership promotion opportunities and member-only events.

  • Prepare and implement annual giving campaigns.

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, ensure effective and timely communication to all donors and members.

  • Process donation and membership contributions.

  • Supervise the development and execution of the Red Into Black fundraising event, working with the Red Into Black Committee and Executive Director.

Grants:

  • Proactively research funding opportunities and collaborate with Executive Director and other staff to match funding needs to program needs.

  • Track grants and administer fulfillment requirements and file follow-up reports on behalf of the Museum.

  • Manage all aspects of Grant Funding websites such as Grants.gov, GuideStar, etc.

  • Contribute to writing grant applications with Executive Director.

Administration:

  • General office management.

  • Provide logistical coordination for Board of Trustees and Committee meetings, including creating new board handbooks when requested.

  • Take meeting minutes for Board of Trustee meetings and other Committee meetings as assigned.

  • Provide bookkeeping support through processing accounts receivable and assisting front end staff with deposits.

Other Duties:

  • Provide support to Museum public programs and outreach efforts as assigned.

  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven ability to plan, research, organize and implement development and fundraising programs and activities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to contribute to a positive work culture.

  • Represent the Museum in a professional manner.

  • Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations.

  • Ability to work efficiently and courteously with diverse audiences including members of the public, staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders.

  • Able and willing to work a flexible schedule, which can include weekends and evenings.

  • Must understand non-profit organizations, museums, or arts and cultural organizations.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet scheduled deadlines and timelines.

  • High level of enthusiasm and willingness to work as a team member.

  • This position requires frequently sitting at a desk as well as standing and lifting 25 pounds or more.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years in non-profit fundraising.

  • Bilingual is preferred, but not required.

EMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION:

This position is an hourly, non-exempt position at 40 hours per week and will be paid within the range of $25-$27 per hour. Benefits include health and dental insurance, IRA match, and paid time off.
