As a Barclays developer you will deliver innovative solutions in close collaboration with the business. Reporting to the team lead, you will play a pivotal role in the execution of the strategy. You will be required to work closely with colleagues across Functions Technology (Treasury, Risk and Finance) to ensure the technical solution leverages common components, patterns and principles. This is a great opportunity to help drive forward the strategy of a major expanding area within this global Bank on a multi-year programme of work.
What will you be doing?
You will be providing technical expertise on Scala and Cloudera Hadoop
You will be evangelizing DevOps to improve the quality and efficiency of delivery
You will be a developer within an agile scrum team
You will be participating in support for existing implementation
You will be contributing to the definition of development standards, patterns and techniques
You will be an active and positive contributor to model/design storming sessions, sprint demos, planning sessions and retrospectives
You will be aware of different cultural background of users and team members
You will be working under pressure to deliver to committed timescales
You will be an exemplary team player
You will be translating high level solutions into high quality technical artefacts; thinks 'outside of the box' to support the business in delivering its strategic objectives within the constraints of a regulatory environment
You will be driving the adoption of Lean and Agile techniques
You will be maintaining a high quality set of documentation
What we're looking for:
Bachelor's degree (or above) in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent
2+ years experience of server-side multi threaded Java using a industry standard framework such as Spring
2+ years experience of no-sql technologies OR JSON OR JMS OR messaging technologies
Skills that will help you in the role:
Experience with Scala / Big data (may be training / home study)
Exposure to one of more of HDFS, HBase, Impala, Hive, Avro, Oozie, Spark, Akka and Solr
Experience of working as a developer in a collaborative but disciplined agile delivery environment
Strong technologist with experience of both application and data architectures
Bachelor's degree (or above) in Computer Science or related discipline
Desirable to have experience of agile delivery in a data centric, regulatory environment
Domain knowledge: Treasury/Risk/Finance (nice to have); Financial Services (desirable
Exposure to object oriented and functional programming
Solid understanding of Unix/Linux
Demonstrates the mind-set of a 'polygot' programmer - able to quickly pick up new programming languages and paradigms
An appreciation of data architecture principles such as Dimensional and 3NF Modelling
Interest or experience in solving Big Data problems using distributed computing platforms e.g. Spark
Able to produce detailed technical specifications
Ensures quality and agility is present through adoption of continuous integration, test/behavioural driven testing and automated deployment
Awareness of different cultural background of users and team members
Ability to work under pressure to deliver to committed timescales
