Responsible for observation and secure control of detainees during processing, facility movement, counts, meals, recreation, visitation, religious services, library work details, medical, courts, and housing.
Assist in the processing of detainees being admitted or discharged from the facility (e.g. issues linen and bedding and sanitary kits to incoming detainees; prepares detainee files; assists with orientation, etc). Take detainee fingerprints and photographs
Help identify, properly process and store detainee personal property. Conduct population counts as required; control movement during counts.
Post required log entries on detainees/population.
Perform wake-up and lights out activities.
Coordinate internal movements and communications affecting detainee population as required in Post Orders.
Receive, document and control entrance and exit of all visitors, contract employees providing services (food, trash, laundry, janitorial, and maintenance), deliveries and pickups inside the facility.
Provide security of all persons with items (such as packages, parcels, equipment and vehicles), which enter and leave the facility site via the main and sally port gates.
Communicate with appropriate designated interior and exterior posts for all entering and departing traffic.
Provide security surveillance of all areas within visual range of fixed post.
Provide roving patrol of the facility perimeter on a random schedule and document the results of such patrols in a written logbook.
Provide lobby and gate support, immediately report any breach of security, discrepancies, or problems to the Shift Captain, assigned Supervisor, or other designated authority.
Guard against unauthorized removal of or damage to property or persons and prevent unauthorized entry/exit.
Control vehicles and pedestrian traffic, stationed at the main entrance sally port, access into the facility. Operate gates for vehicular access.
Report any breach of security, discrepancies, or problems to the Shift Captain, assigned Supervisor and designated Agency officer.
Ensure detainees are present and provide security for court hearings. Notate all decisions that are made during court for all detainees
Provide security for those detainees hospitalized around the clock at local/various hospitals and/or the facility site.
U.S. Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident;
Not currently employed by federal agency/active duty military;
HS Graduate or GED;
21 years of age;
Capable of understanding and applying written and verbal orders, rules and regulations;
English literacy and ability to write reports in English;
Meet physical/health requirements for duties
Min of 1 year of security industry experience or active duty military service with honorable discharge; OR 6 months corrections/detention officer experience.
Valid state security officers license
Valid state firearms license (if performing in an armed post)
Required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and climb stairs for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to crouch, kneel, or run periodically.
Must be able to grip, squeeze, and repetitively use fine hand movements.
Must be able to run with a fire extinguisher for long distances if necessary.
Required to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
Required to occasionally lift 50+ lbs.
Must be physically capable of responding to emergency situations that could include fire, or physical altercations.

1.Three days on/four days off. Shifts are 13 hours.
2.Four days on/3 days off. Shifts are 12 hours.
Shifts will rotate approximately every 3 months. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Optional transportation from/to El Paso to Pecos, lodging and meals provided during days on shift for El Paso residents. Lodging and meals provided for Midland/Odessa residents.
