Summary:

The Desktop Support Technician will support desktop operating systems like Microsoft Windows 10 by diagnosing and correcting problems as well as on hardware such as personal computers (PCs), printers, scanners, plotters, modems, card readers, and other peripherals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Document changes to the user base for local and remote users.

  • Support desktop operating systems like Microsoft Windows 10 using the ability to diagnose and correct problems

  • Build new systems using the Army Gold Master (AGM) or the bulk imaging of approved operating systems, baseline software applications, and required security patches

  • Install encryption systems used to protect the data of portable systems such as laptops

  • Identify and install required drivers.

  • Maintain Active Directory by:

  • Adding systems or users

  • Resetting passwords

  • Diagnosing login problems

  • Identifying the source of a problem as a group policy or network.

  • Install, diagnose and correct problems with desktop software including, but is not limited to:

  • Microsoft Office Professional

  • Microsoft Outlook

  • Internet Explorer

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional and others.

  • Establish and troubleshoot network file shares, data protection systems and data backup and data transfer techniques.

  • Ensure systems are configured in accordance with DOD published Security and Technical Information Guides (STIGs).

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • High school diploma/GED and 1 years of Helpdesk/Desktop Support or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • DoD 8570 IAT II Certified.

  • TS/SCI clearance required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to diagnose and correct hardware and/or driver problems, perform upgrades, and install new or replacement hardware

  • Must have advanced working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database (MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook

  • Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols and standards

  • Strong technical knowledge of telecommunications, networks and PC operating systems

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

Job Purpose To provide technical expertise in order to identify operational and processing problems, evaluate alternative approaches, and perform, plan, and implement recommended resolutions. Task and Duties * Provide Windows Desktop System Administration services and be responsible for the installation, configuration, overall management of all hardware and software related to CAAs desktop/laptop computing environment. * Install, configure, and troubleshoot the approved standard suite of software. User requests for software assistance shall be submitted through TrackIT/FootPrints service tickets. * The contractor is responsible for physically transporting and placing PCs/workstations/ laptops/ printers/faxes/phones to areas within CAAs office building and joining the PCs, workstations, and laptops to the designated network. * Respond with answers to users questions related to establishing network passwords, publishing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates to support Common Access Card (CAC) login and e-mail encryption/ digital signature, creating network drives, and setting up Microsoft Outlook. * Perform manual installation of software, software upgrades, and software security patches on PCs/workstations/laptops. * Create and update drive images with GHOST software for PC/workstation/laptop configurations; imaging process shall be automated. * Contact external vendors if needed to repair hardware/software under warranty or under a maintenance contract. * Perform hardware troubleshooting and repair (using government furnished computer parts) on PCs/workstations/laptops not under warranty or under a maintenance contract. * Troubleshoot and resolve PC/workstation/printer to network connectivity issues in response to users submitting a service request through CAAs ticketing system. * Keeps PC/workstation/laptop antivirus software up to date using automated and manual procedures. * Quarantine, clean virus affected PCs/workstations and laptops. In the event a PC cannot be cleaned, PC/workstations and laptops shall be re-imaged. * Utilize Ricoh web interface, remotely monitor status of network printers to identify impending maintenance, repair, and supply needs and report that status to the Government IT Operations Manager through Daily reporting or verbally/e-mail should immediate action be required by Govt personnel. * Monitor CAAs software inventories Required Qualifications * A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an enterprise helpdesk or desktop support role * Minimum of an Active Secret Security Clearance * Security+ Certification * One of the following certifications or proof of training is required: A+ Certification, MCP, Microsoft Training Certificate, or a Microsoft Certification Preferred Qualifications * Experience with desktop support * Identify, analyzes, and repairs product failures, orders, and replace parts as needed * Experience troubleshooting Windows 7 * Must be able to interact with numerous computer platforms in a multi-layered client server environment * Exceptional problem-solving skills a must * Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Working Conditions Primarily in an office environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is possible. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift at least 35lbs in order to facilitate equipment moves.
