Desktop Support Manager, College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences
The College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences seeks an experienced Desktop Support Manager to provide computer support to our college faculty and staff. In this role, you will also play a crucial in managing and mentoring a team of part-time student computer support personnel, providing them with learning experiences and real-world application of their technical skills. Our large college has complex needs with faculty and staff in several buildings throughout campus, and we need your skillset to help us ensure seamless technical operations! What You'll Do in This Position:
Provide comprehensive computer support to college faculty and staff through assisting them with desktop-related issues, including software troubleshooting, hardware problems, and technical requirements
Set up user accounts for Box, printers, email, RingCentral phone system, and specialized software
Keep faculty and staff informed about computer upgrades and account setup
Purchase, configure, and track equipment, manage surplus equipment, work with warranty providers, and restore lost information from backups
Ensure faculty and staff have necessary security access and keep personnel informed of security risks
Manage and mentor a team of 10 to 12 part-time student computer support personnel. Assist them in learning how to train students with software installation, troubleshooting, and customer service.
Conduct weekly staff meetings with student employees and manage effective communication between students and college faculty and staff.
Interface with the university's Office of Information Technology
Troubleshoot setup of student labs throughout the college, including resolving bugs/glitches and pushing out software updates as needed.
Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars on behalf of FHSS Computing Services and the College
What Qualifies You for This Role:
Required
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU and a desire to mentor students
Degree in Computer Science or related field and at least three years of computer troubleshooting in a large organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Familiarity and experience with troubleshooting both PC and MAC computer hardware
Patience, respect, kindness, and a desire to assist users in resolving problems
Excellent customer service skills and a good understanding of personnel issues
Comprehension of how computer applications are set up, installed, and function
Ability to track and find upgraded software drivers to help maintain the complete functionality of all the computer systems maintained by the college
Preferred:
10+ years of setting up computer systems with extensive hands-on setup and support experience in an environment with at least 250-300 users
5 years of managerial experience
Familiarity with internal university software programs

Physical Exam Details: Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions. Moving around computer equipment (i.e. desktop computers, laptops, monitors, printers) A few minutes at a time, a few times/day.
