Job Summary:

The Design/Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design of new products and improving the characteristics of existing products. They will be a part of an energetic group of professionals developing world-class consumer products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

CAD Management:

  • Manage project plans and complete project tasks

  • Create CAD and drawings for new products

  • Verify drawings and part deliverables per standard work

  • Release drawings to manufacturing, tooling, and vendors

Design Verification:

  • Coordinate the following: ordering of product, delivery of product, and assembly of product

  • Submit First Article documentation

  • Create DFMEA and test order documentation

  • Perform product assembly audits


  • Contribute in brain-storming meetings

  • Review products and processes, and make suggestions to improve value-stream costs


  • Must have Bachelor's degree in Engineering and must have strong skills in engineering mechanics and strength of materials

  • Present effectively before groups, respond effectively to common inquiries or complaints, and effectively present information to management

  • Ability to work in remote and local teams as well as independently

  • Set priorities based on current business needs and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Self-starter with drive for results and attention to detail

  • Proficient computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping and working knowledge of Microsoft office which include Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Proficiency in Creo (Pro/E) or similar CAD software is preferred

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

This is a Full Time Direct Hire Role Role Description & Responsibilities: Highly motivated mechanical engineer (or similar) with knowledge of composite materials and the composite manufacturing cure process. Primary focus of position is to lead the management and execution of the Northrop Grumman standard process and requirements for qualifying ovens and autoclaves for fabricating composite structures. The position includes leading a multifunctional team including the thermal/fluids analysis team, manufacturing engineers, process engineering team leads, operations management, configuration management and maintenance. Support will also include, but is not limited to, maintaining vessel certification credentials, leading a disciplined process and revision control system, writing reports, oversight of tests and evaluations of hardware or software systems which have been altered, repaired, or modified in any way that affects the equipment performance, working with customers related to technical issues and product quality, and interfacing with equipment suppliers. Ideal candidate would have a strong understanding of composite processing and the autoclave curing process, the mechanical and software controls needed to operate the vessels as well as the analytical thermal/fluids theory. The position would include approximately 50% desk time, and 50% shop floor time. Position may require occasional domestic travel to other Northrop Grumman manufacturing sites (Less than 5% travel). Current DOD Secret Clearance is preferred but not required, but the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance is required. Responsibilities: * Lead the management and execution of the Northrop Grumman internal standard process and requirements for qualifying ovens and autoclaves for fabricating composite structures * Oversight of tests and evaluations of hardware or software systems which have been altered, repaired, or modified in any way that affects the equipment performance. * Maintain or create a disciplined system for autoclave modifications, software revisions and recipe control * Write and test software for autoclaves/ovens * Facilitate and maintain all training materials for autoclave and oven operations and engineering * Troubleshoot and own all autoclave and oven software issues * Support manufacturing in resolving all autoclave/oven issues and improvements * Initiate and manage cost savings projects related to ovens and autoclaves Experience Requirements: * Ability to obtain DOD Secret Security Clearance * B.S. in Mechanical, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum 5 years of experience, or M.S. in Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering and 3 years. * Knowledge of composite materials and composite manufacturing processes * Understanding of heat transfer specifically relating to fluid flow * Proficiency in writing reports, hosting meetings and leading a team * Knowledge of MS Office Suite Experience Preferred: * Current DOD Secret Security Clearance * Experience following customer/internal specifications * Previous experience in aerospace manufacturing facility * Experience with ACS Autoclave and Oven Composite Process Control (CPC) Software and Object Files * Experience writing equipment specifications * Experience writing composite cure recipes Skills & Qualifications: * Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a team as well as independently * Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team * Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively * Excellent oral and written communication skills are required * Ability to make sound decisions * Attention to detail * Ability to multi-task Education/Certifications: * B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace Engineering, or related with a minimum 2 years of experience, or M.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering.
