Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
The Civil Engineer reportsto the Civil Engineering Manager in PED and will support internal and externalteam members collaborating on new projects and improvements to our existing fleetof steam and combustion turbine units on Long Island. This position is responsible to research,develop and implement new civil and structural projects that capitalize on theevolving energy market in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The person in this role is responsible toassess and implement improvements to the existing steam and combustion turbineunits as part of the capital improvement and maintenance projects related toCivil Engineering Structures. Thisposition is responsible to perform technical and financial evaluations of newand existing assets. Project assessmentsshall include, but are not limited to, different design options, alternatives,cost/benefit analysis, risk analysis and project performance evaluations. This position will include project engineer,project design and project manager responsibilities. The engineer will evaluate all aspects ofproject design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operations onprojects. This role is responsible to develop drawings, specifications,standards and procedures on projects. Thisposition is an essential contributor to our goal of asset management andtechnology modernization.
Position Responsibilities(including but not limited to):
Reports to the Civil Engineering Manager of the Power Plant Operations Power Engineering Dept.
Work closely with plant staffs and engineers to establish equipment locations, support structures, physical designs and civil requirements to support plant maintenance and operations.
Serve as the project engineer during the design, construction and operation of projects on existing generating assets and new energy development opportunities.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting on field installations
Provide technical evaluations of new energy development projects for energy storage, solar and combustion turbines, as related to civil works.
Evaluate new and emerging technologies for application in new projects and existing assets.
Provide guidance to PPO personnel, vendors, internal and external partners on project requirements.
Provide effective communication with PPO personnel, partners, vendors, internal and external stakeholders on projects to promote the effective implementation of projects.
Serve as the technical consultant throughout project development, construction, commissioning and operation on existing generating assets.
Perform engineering calculations in accordance with latest codes and industry standards.
Develop studies to support project scope.
Develop specifications, standards and procedures for projects.
Develop man-hour, material and service cost estimates.
Develop cost benefit analysis and risk assessment on projects.
Prepare and review detailed civil design and show detail drawings in AutoCAD.
Prepare computerized models of structures (STAAD).
Assemble civil drawing work packages and prepare transmittal documents.
Perform field surveys to support design development and as-built conditions.
Interface with civil engineers, other engineering disciplines, designers, plant staffs, support services organizations and contractors.
Recognizing and mitigating hazards.
1-10 years of related power plant civil or equivalent experience.
Experience inspecting civil and structural installation work.
Experience working with other engineering disciplines.
Experience with AutoCAD
Experience with structural modeling programs.
Familiar with civil and structural codes such as AISC Steel Construction Manual and ACI 318 Code.
Experience with power generating equipment and support systems.
Experience in project management, construction and commissioning preferred.
Experience in project cost/benefit and risk analysis.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required. Advanced credentials preferred.
NYS Intern Engineer Certification or Professional Engineer License preferred.
