BIW is hiring Label Plates Designers at the following entry level:1st Class Designer: $25.27-$29.92
2nd Class Designer: $22.48 - $24.24

Job Description

Perform research of multi-discipline Functional Engineering and Detail Design data

Apply multi-discipline marine design information to activities that primarily include but not limited to Label Plate creation and revision

Electronic drafting of label plates and placards

Development of labels for multiple programs and hull ranges

Resolution of Label Plate design related issues encountered during ship construction that may involve occasional ship-checking

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • Good computer skills (e.g., proficiency with Microsoft Office tools) required-Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical procedures, standards, work instructions, and drawings-Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment required

  • Ability to perform ship checks which entails going to the physical construction products, waterfront and label plates fabrication shop required

  • Working knowledge of DDG 51 and DDG 1000 Ship Specifications preferred

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Design experience in the following disciplines preferred: Electrical, Functional Electrical

  • Design experience in one or more of the additional following disciplines desirable: Mechanical/Pipe, HVAC, and Hull Outfit

  • Experience with UNIX highly desirable

  • AUTOCAD proficiency required
    1st Class:

Minimum of seven (7) years design experience, or

Bachelor's degree in a related technical field (Engineering, Architecture), or

Associate/ Vocational School degree with four (4) years design experience required
2nd Class:

Minimum of four (4) years design experience, or

Bachelor's degree in a related technical field (Engineering, Architecture), or

Associate/ Vocational School degree with two (2) years design experience required
