Internship Program at Tesla

About the Team

The 3D Visualization team is responsible for the creation of computer-generated imagery. Primary tasks for our intern will involve maintaining 150% "virtual garage" vehicles for use in real-time review sessions, assisting and researching in use of VR technologies for digital design reviews, and with other visualization tasks such as still imagery creation.

What to Expect

The successful candidate must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented, and have the ability to work independently. This person must establish and maintain a professional working relationship with external and internal teams at all levels across the company. Typical job duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintaining "virtual garage" master files for real-time reviews.

  • Still imagery creation

  • Shading / Lighting / Texturing

  • Compositing / Post-processing

  • Rigging mechanical systems

  • Animating cameras / vehicles

  • Interfacing with design, engineering, web, stores and manufacturing to provide visualization solutions

  • Supporting legacy projects

  • Troubleshooting

Requirements

  • Experience in Unreal Engine 4, with emphasis in blueprints, lighting and shading.

  • Knowledge of computer graphics theory and concepts.

  • Receptive to learning new tools and exchanging knowledge.

  • Accustomed to going above and beyond.

  • Excellent communicator, team player, resourceful, organized and mindful of time management.

Locations Hawthorne, CA About the Team Digital Design Technologies is a software development group inside the Tesla design studio. The team creates state-of-the-art tools which improve the way Tesla conceives its products. This position will help this group research and develop new tools centered in computer graphics, which is changing the way vehicles are created. What to Expect * Assist in the development of new tools * Actively engage in programming in C++ * Working closely with digital artists * Having direct impact with teams working in real products Requirements * C++ knowledge strictly required * Experience using 3rd party APIs * Computer graphics background ideal * Knowledge of CUDA/OpenCL, NURBS and subdivision surfaces, 3D math would be helpful * Ability to work independently * Experience with Unreal Engine, Maya, Blender preferred but not required Tesla Motors Hawthorne CA
