Pratt & Whitney's Hot Section Engineering (HSE) organization has an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer interested in serving as a HSE Turbine Airfoil assessment lead within the Turbine Airfoil Casting Team (TACT) in E. Hartford, CT. The Engineer in this position will be responsible for managing all aspects of Turbine Airfoil assessments for variations to casting drawing and QAD requirements in order to support HSMC Turbine Airfoil casting deliveries and production rates. Support of producibility initiatives as well as Quality escapes will also be periodically required. This position is a key role within HSE and the HSMC as it provides dedicated Design experience to identify the most efficient dispositions for Turbine Airfoil Castings to support the HSMC casting raw material requirements.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Mentoring and providing guidance to Engineering Outsourcing practitioners performing Engineering assessments of turbine airfoil casting variations to drawing and QAD requirements.

  • Managing open Engineering technical assessments to ensure timely closure of tasks within target task lead times.

  • Interfacing with the Aero, ATS, Durability, Manufacturing Engineering and Structures Engineering disciplines to solve problems and complete timely closure of technical assessments.

  • Developing and cultivating positive working relationships with Engineering Outsourcing groups and turbine airfoil casting suppliers. Some periodic business travel will likely be required.

  • Improving HSE and TACT processes to increase Engineering assessment efficiency.

  • Updating long-term Engineering requirements (casting Drawing, QAD, etc.) for turbine airfoil casting producibility.

This position requires excellent communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to operate across a wide range of disciplines and management levels with both internal and external customers to ensure requirements and expectations are met. Experience working with suppliers is a plus.

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Engineering discipline.

  • 5 years of experience providing Design engineering support of airfoils.

  • 1+ years' of experience working with and manage day-to-day activities meeting raw material delivery requirements.

  • Must be a US Citizen.

Preferred Qualification:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or a related engineering discipline

  • Design Proficiency Level 3 in Turbine static structure and in Turbine Blades

  • New product design experience in turbine airfoils or Class I EC redesign experience in turbine airfoils

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Trained

  • Experience and knowledge of Airfoil investment casting manufacturing processes

  • Travel Requirements:
    5-10% travel will be typical, but up to 20% may be required depending on business needs.
