POSITION DETAILS

The Office of Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs at Baruch College of The City University of New York seeks a Design Specialist. Working under the direction of the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, the Design Specialist will be responsible for designing and producing an extensive variety of print materials, web-based communications, and promotional items for the College. Projects include advertisements, brochures, reports, event invitations, flyers, programs, banners, photo displays, stationery, posters, and other materials.

S/he is responsible for ensuring that the College's brand and design standards are met on these projects, including appropriate application of the Baruch/CUNY identities. Duties include editing photos or files as needed; setting up of files for print production; creating specifications for print projects for securing bids from external printers/vendors (including recommendations on the type and weight of paper to be used); and coordination of work with vendors.

S/he will oversee production activities, including development of proofs and press checks, while ensuring that goals and deadlines are met. Supports photography, video, and multimedia requests.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree (preferably in design, art, multimedia or related field) and minimum of four years of related work experience required, with a wide-ranging portfolio of work. Strong knowledge of typography and applications including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop (Mac platform). Knowledge of web-basd design, including work with HTML templates.

Proven ability to work on multiple tasks under tight deadlines and to work both independently and as part of a creative team in a collegial atmosphere. Ability to work in an agency-like structure that services clients' needs across the entire college. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience with consumer-oriented projects preferred. Knowledge of photography and videography (After Effects) is an asset.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Provides design and production expertise for College publications, written materials, and multi-media communications.

  • Works with department and other College administrators to assess departmental publication needs and determine appropriate production and design elements

  • Participates in planning communications messages, graphic elements, and formats appropriate to client requirements

  • Manages production schedules and budgets, coordinating production activities with internal and external personnel

  • Plans and implements on-line and multimedia communications, coordinating with Information Technology professionals as needed

  • Supervises staff both creative and production staff; works with College print shop, computer center, and other departments to ensure support of college publication needs

  • May oversee equipment inventories and coordinate maintenance of specialized equipment and technology

  • Develops production workflows, policies and standards, and assures adherence to any internal or external communications standards

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
