You'll be at the center of building product impact in this fast-paced, exciting role. This person will manage a pod of designers to shape the travel experience of our travelers. You'll have a huge impact on our product, what it looks like and how it is built. The ideal person is a mix of coach, player, passionate designer and strategic leader. You'll be leading a team of designers that have designed every piece of TripActions from day 1.

You are a highly-motivated self-starter with an excellent eye for UI, attention to details, typography, layout, color, animation and are an individual who loves solving difficult design problems with smart solutions in order to improve the overall user experience. And while you are great at all of the above, you're even better at bringing other designers along with you and growing them. You have a strong bias to action with an ability to ruthlessly prioritize. You're comfortable working with co-founders/company leadership and work effectively across teams.


  • Manage, mentor and inspire a team of product designers, providing design direction and pushing the quality of the design work

  • Invest in and coach team to grow their impact and careers

  • Push the boundaries of your team's UX/UI/visual execution and try new ideas. Be able to think "Blue Sky" and explore divergent concepts and create a trajectory for the company

  • Influence product strategy and understand how to solve a range of tactical & contained issue to much more complex, loosely defined product challenges across all platforms: iOS, Android, web, and email

  • Make a huge impact on productivity and accelerate team efficiency by improving processes and workflows with the design team and cross-functional teams


  • Passion for building a great product and leading a team of problem solvers and innovators

  • Background in product design (UX/UI), both mobile and web

  • Ability to think big and understand complex feature sets. You have a history of deep diving into complex products.

  • A track record of leading design teams through successful product launches across iOS, Android, and mobile web

  • Experience recruiting, hiring, and retaining multi-disciplinary design teams

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Deep knowledge and applied experience in graphic design (layout, typography, color)

  • Superb attention to detail

  • Ability to work well on an ego-free, highly collaborative, and cross-functional team

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment

AV's are complex systems involving many electrical disciplines including power and analog design, high speed digital electronics, sensor technology and high performance compute and network architectures. The ideal candidate has a breadth of experience in these areas as well as experience in leading make/buy decisions and bringing electrical design through an entire product lifecycle from concept to production and field operations. Experience in industry where reliability and safety are critical elements (automotive, telecom, aerospace) is highly desirable. Responsibilities: * Lead, grow, and mentor our electrical engineering team * Formulate a team mission, identify and build team core competencies and supporting tools and process * Organize and lead design reviews * Work cross-functionally with the executive leadership, product, technical program management, software and systems engineering teams to define and optimize the self driving system * Lead team making architectural, make/buy and partnership decisions in framework aligned with Level 5's business needs Experience: * Bachelors or Master's degree in Electrical or Computer engineering * Prior experience managing, growing and scaling teams * Demonstrated experience performing engineering analysis & trade studies covering electronics, compute architecture, etc. * Strong communication and collaboration skills * Experience in the design and development of reliable / high integrity electrical and electronic systems and/or components (including sensor technologies) or computer architectures or hardware/software for safety critical applications Benefits: * Ability to communicate highly technical problems and solutions at all levels from engineer to C-level executives * Proven ability to operate effectively and autonomously across multiple teams in situations of ambiguity, with only high level direction * Experience developing complex systems combining remote sensing technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Controls for a safety critical application * Experience in requirement derivation, tracking and verification tests processes (V diagram) in automotive applications * Experience in systems integration, vehicle testing, functional safety, and vehicle launch * Software coding skills (matlab, python or C/C++) Lyft is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer that proudly pursues and hires a diverse workforce.
