In March 2018, Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, acquired Cape, a local startup in South Africa, with a big vision: to improve the way the Internet works. As Cape we built a small team of skilled engineers and designers in Cape Town and a Wi-Fi monitoring product which won us Best Startup of 2017 from Wi-Fi NOW, a global industry body. Now, as part of Aruba, we are growing our team in Santa Clara, CA, building new products, and scaling our systems to meet a 100X surge in demand during the next 18-24 months.

What do we do? Our product gives IT managers' insight into how their Wi-Fi, networks, and apps are performing 24/7 and how to fix any issues before users complain. Other monitoring tools are complex and intimidating, built by network engineers for network engineers; ours is beautiful and simple, and our customers love it. Our hardware agent is a delight to install and our dashboard and mobile software is easy and fun to use. Our product is used in offices, hotels, airports, stadiums, retail stores, and more-every business with Wi-Fi is a potential customer we can help.

We are obsessed with every detail of the product experience, and we even design and manufacture our own hardware in Cape Town.

Who you are

Do you have a passion for great design and an ability to achieve it? Are you a problem solver, quick study, self starter, and excellent communicator? Do you possess a blend of interaction design, visual design, and prototyping skills? Are you a visionary, ambitious designer who wants to challenge yourself and lead the design direction of a product experience?

What you will be doing

You will lead interaction, visual, and product design. You'll be rolling up your sleeves and producing high-quality designs-from concept to execution-with the help of a junior designer. You'll also help to direct the work of an industrial design partner to work on hardware and packaging designs.

You'll be collaborating with senior product people and developers in a fast-paced environment to bring a beautiful product to life. Your work will help to make the Internet-the most important technology of our lifetime-better.

Our Minimum Requirements for this Role are

  • Exceptional visual and user interface design skills, as well as user-centred design principles

  • Demonstrated ability to grasp and distil complex issues and translate them into clean, focused, understandable and delightful user experiences and interfaces

  • Affinity for consistency, color use, typography, and a keen eye for subtle details

  • Experience collaborating with software developers

  • Highly professional and enjoys working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

  • Highly skilled in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch or equivalent

Experience in any of the following will be considered a plus

  • Ability to prototype in HTML/CSS/JavaScript o

  • Experience designing simple, beautiful data visualizations, business dashboards, or infographics

  • Degree in human interaction sociology, psychology, interaction design, visual design, or equivalent

Qualifications * Minimum requirements include 15 years of industry experience in HW Modem Architecture and Design. * 15 years experience including design of wireless modems including but not limited to: Connectivity (802.11xx) UMTS, LTE, CDMA, GERAN and 5G modems. Experience in LTE and 5G design highly desirable. * Candidate should have a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering at a minimum.
