Carpentry Contractors, a division of Lyman Companies, is seeking a Design Intern for the summer of 2020!
This position will be based out of Montrose, MN and will use computer or technical tools to prepare detailed documents of building material requirements and or systems for assigned projects or elated segments.
Our Internship Program is customized to expose students to different areas of work while matching career interest with projects. This 12 week paid program features three work dimensions; fundamentals, other duties, and project work.
Intern Duties and Responsibilities:
Be responsible for and proficient in creation of site specific construction documents of single & multi-family units per builder specifications using AUTOCAD or REVIT software.
Assist internal employees with detail creation used for reference & production efficiencies throughout CCC departments.
Assist BIM team in creation of estimating documents to provide material lists and pricing information throughout Lyman Companies.
Record complete and accurate notes on projects performed along with updating/creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to projects.
Attend meetings, events, and other networking opportunities.
Project work to be assigned by location manager.
Complies with operational safety and security policies and procedures.
Complies with Companys attendance policy by maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
Other duties as assigned by location management.
Tasks are subject to change.
Read and understand blueprints and detailed technical drawings.
Use computer or other technical equipment to provide a technically accurate layout (takeoff) of customer order.
Adhere to local building codes and material constraints when developing material list and design layout.
Assist customers as required, providing accurate, timely and thorough customer service.
Measure and scale projects on-site.
Attend training as required to maintain current knowledge of drafting and relevant aspects.
Job Classification and Compensation:
Interns earn a competitive hourly wage.
This position is considered full-time for the duration of the internship.
After 40 hours worked per week this position is eligible for overtime (1 times hourly wage).
Interns are not eligible for Lyman Companies benefits.
Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Full-time student who is in good standing with their college or university.
On track to a bachelors or associates degree in an accredited program in AAS in Civil, Architectural or Design, Construction, or related fields.
Legally able to work in the United States.
Partial to fast paced, dynamic work environment.
Special skills required Proficient technical writing skills. Excellent salesmanship and communication skills. Proprietary software, AUTOCAD, REVIT, computer literate and ability to read technical drawings.
Special knowledge required Reading and interpreting blueprints in an architectural related industry.
Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs. on a random basis, standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time, and bending or stooping. Ability to travel and perform according to the requirements of the position; valid driver license
