Description:The selected candidate will join the Military Space line of business as a member of the Space Protection Programs structures design team, supporting many different efforts ranging from studies, proposals, IRAD efforts, and flight hardware developments.
Designs major components or major portions of a satellite system, or technically advanced protoypes. Develops or improves spacecraft products and facilitates manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, structures, and products. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements.
Participates in issue resolution, developing solutions to technical problems of varying complexity while assuring sound technical content and timely closure. Develops, reviews and maintains engineering drawings, specifications, manufacturing processes, and technical analyses necessary to support spacecraft development and manufacturing activities.
Demonstrates an exceptional work ethic and is knowledgeable across a broad range of topics in the mechanical engineering discipline. Possess good process focus and is able to intelligently apply standard processes to real-world applications. Thorough, with good attention to detail and a solid understanding of documentation methods and requirements.
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 2 years of professional experience; or related Masters degree.
Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering design principles
Familiarity with CREO or similar mechanical CAD tools for layout, concept definition, design, and drawings of mechanical hardware
Knowledge of Mechanical Design principles including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated organizational skills
Fluency in mechanical 3D modeling methods and practices for components, assemblies, and drawing creation using CREO software
Experience in Mechanical Design using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
Experience in model management and engineering drawing release through EPDM
Experience developing/leveraging common solutions across programs/products
Ability to plan the design, development, and testing of mechanical assemblies
Active TS/SCI w/ poly clearance
Ability to work within small agile development teams
