Your performance areas:

The Design Engineer position will design and develop special tools with indexable inserts according to customer specifications or needs. Collaborate with salesforce and quotation engineering teams to understand customer requirements and translate them into cutting tool design concepts.

Key responsibilities include:

• Develop tools for manufacturing applications including turning, milling, boring, parting and grooving, drilling and tool holding systems.
• Utilize NX software to create detailed drawings and 3D models of cutting tool designs, ensuring accuracy and precision.
• Conduct feasibility studies and engineering analysis to evaluate the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of cutting tool designs.
• Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to provide necessary engineering support for machining tools with high efficiency and quality.
• Optimize tool designs for performance, cost-effectiveness, and ease of manufacturing, considering factors such as components, materials, heat-treatment, black processes, tolerances, bill of materials, and production processes.
• Participate in cutting tool design reviews and provide technical expertise and recommendations to enhance product quality and efficiency.
• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in tool design and engineering.
• Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source materials and components for tool manufacturing.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of new design methodologies and tools.
• Ensure compliance with established industry safety and design standards and guidelines.

Your profile:

• Bachelor's Mechanical Engineering and five (5) years of experience as Manufacturing Engineer, Design Engineer or Designer.
• The five (5) years of experience must have included creating custom cutting tool designs for proposal, approval, and manufacturing using NX/AutoCAD, SAP/ECTR software, and the use of metal cutting tool technology for turning, drilling, threading, milling, boring, and tool holding, conducting design validation and testing, and ensuring designs are compliant with industry standards.
• Up to 5% domestic travel required. May telecommute from home within the Mebane, North Carolina MSA two (2) days per week.
