External Description:JOB SUMMARY
To design new and revise current product designs. To perform analysis of designs and make recommendations. Design Engineer will also support accessory integration and provide technical solutions to meet consumer needs. Performs accurately all engineering assignments in accordance with prescribed procedures using sound judgment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops design concepts for new products or improvements to existing products. Prepares cost estimates involved in evaluating feasibility and marketability of new or modified products.
Performs Special Application design functions having to do with special order vehicles or accessories as it relates to manufacturing and related services. May originate and coordinate scheduling and provide application information and specifications to marketing and manufacturing departments as required to meet customer needs.
Assists manufacturing engineering and production personnel to carry out assignments and, where necessary, expedite application engineering activities to meet established goals.
Analyzes and interprets customer data submitted for Special Engineering Applications and component modifications and changes affecting standard products and incorporates acceptable and applicable ideas into the modification function. Provides cost estimates and price quotes of special modifications.
Assists fellow members of the engineering department in meeting department deadlines and costs prescribed by established budget(s).
Prepares drawings of new or revised designs including mechanical, electrical and environmental considerations.
Prepares drawings, calculations and specifications. Reviews completed drawings for accuracy of dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, etc.
Provides technical information to the purchasing department on matters dealing with procurement of special material, specifications, available sources, subcontracting and services as they relate to special modifications. Confers with vendors to select and specify product, components or materials to be used in the manufacture of special products.
Leads and/or participates in design reviews on components/systems/projects to ensure adequate input and involvement from all interested groups.
Confers with manufacturing engineers to provide assistance in production operations, tooling requirements, feasibility of manufacture or subcontracting, labor and material cost estimates, etc. as they relate to special modifications.
In accordance with established policies, provides and reviews information for production control, planning, data processing and related documentation. Establishes and maintains adequate records relating to Special Applications engineering functions.
Keeps abreast of and well informed on new developments in the engineering field through contact with educational institutions, professional societies, manufacturers and trade shows, perusal of text, technical paper, journals and periodicals.
BS degree in Engineering
Related design experience
Proficiency with Inventor and
Technical knowledge derived from degree training
Specialknowledge helpful in areas of advanced analysis
Knowledge of electrical design andapplication associated with DC and AC power circuits for electro-mechanical systemshelpful
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Quick learner with highlevel of ambition and drive
Strong people skills, able to work in a team environment
Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
