JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our growing team.
Product Design Engineer
Summary
The Product Design Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design and development of new products, including improvements to existing products to improve the performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Support the product development/ engineering department and work order processing group with creation of product specifications through code that supports manufacturing work order specifications.
Work with the manufacturing supervision and production teams to improve the production work order specifications and processes.
Administrate Engineering Change Notice process with related departments.
Perform Engineering Changes in product configurator resulting in subsequent generation of product specifications and Bill of Materials generation
Manage simple design projects.
Apply engineering background to develop unique solutions to problems.
Member of brainstorming groups.
Member of design reviews.
Identify the requirements of product development projects on a per project basis and work through the group to fulfill those requirements.
Participate as a team member on multi-disciplinary teams.

Creates mechanical/architectural drawings by reviewing models, sketches, descriptions, specifications, and supporting documents; conferring with Product Engineers. The finished product must be a professional drawing package.
Prepares 3D models for designers to break them down into assemblies, sub-assemblies and detail drawings.
Utilize the drawing number system within PDL.
Modifies drawings by analyzing, resolving, and incorporating changes.
Maintain the project information within PDL and Share Point.
Performs preliminary bill of material check.
Generate/check bill of materials for the Data Department.
Produce copies prints as needed.
Checks drawings/work done by other Designers.
Responsible for assisting in the Drawing, CAD and 3D Modeling Standards.
Drives business critical metrics including safety, quality and productivity.
Develop process for product configuration modifications with team.
Assist in the development of projects that will require capital investments.
Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality and efficiency improvement in accordance with CI, SQDCI, and TPS methodologies.
Provide backup for work order processing and generation of product specifications for manufacturing
Create tools, fixtures, work stations, material presentation systems as required.
Qualifications:
Education: BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes.
Competent in scientific methodology.
Familiarity with CNC programming
Capable of understanding and creating code for product configuration
CAD and Drafting Skills, AutoCAD, inventor, 3D modeling, GD&T Principles.
Understanding and application of tolerance and datum's and how to apply them.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Interfaces with outside suppliers
Maintain a professional drawing system.
Working statistical knowledge and data analysis capability
Knowledge of the door industry
Know all species of wood
Ability to conduct Time & Motion studies
Hands on experience using Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement methods (LEAN, TPS, SQDCI, etc.).
Experience in Lean manufacturing methodologies and practices in manufacturing operations.
Demonstrated ability to apply critical thought processes to develop, recommend and implement strategies and programs that address plant/production objectives.
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and applicable JELD-WEN software applications.
Ability to maintain a high level of integrity while adhering to core JELD-WEN principles and practices.
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
