ASCO Power Technologies, an industry leader in the manufacturing of Automatic Transfer Switches, Industrial Control Products, Load Banks, Power Control Systems, Services and Solutions, has an exciting career opportunity for a Design Engineer for ITAR Products, based out of Florham Park, NJ.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Design Engineer who is responsible for the design and support of ITAR products for the Navy, and other government agencies or government sub-contractors. More specifically, Design Engineer who is responsible for design, improvements, testing, analysis, and performance verifications of company's products. This position requires a degree of technical and professional competence in electro-mechanical design and is expected to resolve technical problems. This position is responsible for engineering documentation including cad models, drawings, calculations, test reports, bills of materials, engineering change orders, and other engineering documents. This position is responsible for the quality and on-time delivery of assigned engineering tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with guidance from a manager.

  • Relies on comprehensive knowledge of engineering fundamentals to accomplish a variety of engineering tasks.

  • Applies knowledge of 3D CAD.

  • Applies knowledge of material properties, machine components, statics and dynamics.

  • Applies drawing standards and industry best practices in design for manufacturing.

  • Provides daily and weekly reports on status of design activities and project.

  • Provides assembly support, as required, to fabricate prototypes and test articles in house.

  • Travels as required to manufacturing plants, suppliers, and occasional customer forensic work.

  • Continues education in job related subjects, attends seminars and conferences.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Government Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability of interpreting government regulations and assessing the impact on company's products.

  • Demonstrated a working knowledge of both commercial and military electrical power systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in handling customer written and verbal inquiries, especially related to Government regulations and products.

  • Demonstrated ability to convert complex government documents into simple readable forms.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to analyze and articulate technical problems.

  • Competent knowledge of fundamentals and practice of engineering.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, solid modeling using PTC or a related package.

  • Knowledge of MS Office application including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Able to work in both office and manufacturing environments.

  • Able to lift heavy objects and work with hand tools as necessary to assemble company's products.

  • Able to wear protective equipment and be mindful of personal safety standards.

  • Domestic and international air travel is required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Comfortable and adept at working through design uncertainty.

  • Proactive and solutions oriented, with ability to learn and try different things with minimal direction.

  • Able to communicate in writing in forms of letters, proposals, memos, and reports in clear and concise terms.

  • Capable of reading and interpreting government documents.

  • At least 3 years of experience with design of ITAR products.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related subject from four-year college.
