Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on engineering student to work with our engineering team. You will assist the engineering team in developing and executing state-of-the-art planetarium display systems, modular structural frame domes, and immersive dome structures. Many of these are one-of-a-kind designs that require our engineers to collaborate closely with clients to ensure that every aspect of the final display meets the client's demanding standards. This is an intern position, and the ideal candidate is a creative individual with a rigorous attention to detail and a knack for creating efficient mechanical designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist team with design projects (mechanical systems and dome structures). Structures can be spherical, cylindrical, toroidal, etc.

  • May help prepare architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents for new and existing clients.

  • May assist in maintaining bills of material, specifications, and detailed drawings for comprehensive product designs.

  • Meet with team and customers via computer, phone, e-mail, and face-to-face meetings.

  • May assist in product research and development.

  • Perform special projects as needed.

Experience

  • BS in mechanical engineering or at least two to three years of study in related major.

  • Experience with structural analysis and construction/architectural experience a big plus (but not required)

  • General knowledge of mechanical engineering principles

  • Prefer understanding of architectural and engineering drafting practices and procedures.

  • Prefer knowledge of symbols and terminology used in architectural and engineering documentation.

  • CAD drafting - in-house system is KeyCreator.

  • 3D visualization and drafting

  • Computer usage, Office suite including Excel VBA

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team and customers.

  • Prepare accurate 2D and 3D CAD models.

  • Prepare accurate, concise, and orderly documentation.

  • Review architectural drawings and incorporate product systems once understood.

  • Track and document changes throughout the design process.

The hourly pay for this position is $16.90/hr.
