Summary:

Mortenson is currently seeking a Design Engineer III in Minneapolis, MN. The Design Engineer is responsible for detailed design for high voltage substation and transmission projects through 500 kV. They will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the relay protection & control engineering aspects on substation and transmission design projects

  • Works independently with limited direction from Engineering Lead

  • Comfortable interfacing and presenting to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision makers, project teams, etc.)

  • Acts as lead technical designer on 2 - 4 large design projects annually across 69Kv and above scopes

  • Review and approve equipment vendor drawings and sign off on testing report on major equipment from manufacturers

  • Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement and construction

  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projects

  • Mentor, coach and develop junior team members

  • Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions

  • Strong project management and analytical problem solving skills

  • Strong understanding of discipline specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE preferred) or related Engineering program required

  • 4+ years related work experience

  • Proficient in engineering theories and principles

  • Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

  • Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification or achievement of EIT within 6 months of entering position required

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
