Reporting to a Senior Engineer, this role acts as a bridge between Design and Production, producing models, drawings, and tool paths that are essential for fabrication while maintaining design intent for the client. The Design Engineer III uses their years of experience and expertise to successfully resolve complex problems in unique ways as well as to train, direct and/or supervise assigned I & II level Engineers as necessary for projects. This role is assigned to lead large revenue, highly visible and diverse clients and projects which will require client interaction, independent decision-making, self-sufficiency, and a high-level of internal collaboration with project teams.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS may include but are not limited to:
Uses Solidworks at an expert level to create very high quality, accurate and timely production drawings, which require little to no redlining
Leads all elements and any size project in their entirety within the Engineering team
Ensures strong partnerships with Project Managers, Designers, Project Engineers and Production staff are maintained by all direct reports; always providing effective, timely and clear communication
Upholds quality standards, improving them when necessary for the benefit of the entire team
Has full ownership of all assigned projects simultaneously
Releases individual or team drawings to Senior Design Engineer for final approval that are thorough, easy to understand and reflect the best possible solution to any given assignment
Communicates project details by receiving, interpreting, and executing information from both internal and external clients
Ensures all components and assemblies are created by assigned team and adheres to applicable industry and business standards
Demonstrates strong leadership skills on assigned projects in terms of priorities, scheduling commitments, meeting/exceeding deadlines and within stated budget
Acts in a consultative capacity, both internally with project teams and externally with clients, providing expert feedback and rationale for the recommended delivery to ensure each assigned project meets expectations and standards
Ensures install details are clearly understood by the assigned Install team and are carried out correctly
Demonstrates leadership by example, able to lead and be led
Continues as a subject matter expert (SME) in the area assigned by Senior Design Engineer or Director of Engineering
Uses company directed business processes and systems consistently and efficiently

Strong understanding of fabrication technology and application

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering
5-8 years of experience and/or training in the design engineering industry or equivalent combination of education and experience
Technically proficient at an expert level with Solidworks, including top-down or in-context modeling
Technically proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Illustrator
Experience with Rhino / Grasshopper, Revit or BIM modeling a plus
Advanced experience with structural metal, sheet metal, plastics, or plywood/mdf fabrication processes
Experience with CNC machining, CAM software a plus
