This position is intended for an engineer focused on the mechanical design, performance, and analysis of high speed, gas breathing turbomachinery. The ideal candidate will have a general knowledge of all aspects of mechanical design and analysis including strength analysis and material behavior.
Execute, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of mechanical design for turbomachinery
Support root cause investigations and develop innovative approaches to solve complex engineering challenges
Document design activity and complex analyses for a wide range of audiences including technical experts, management, and executives
Participate in multidisciplinary team engaged in the design and development of new technologies and system architectures for optimal performance
Support prototype and production development test activity
Maintain, improve, and develop techniques, methods, and standards for mechanical design of turbomachinery
Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, tools, technologies, and quality control standards
Share knowledge, mentor, and develop the next generation of engineers
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR
Advanced Degree in a related field OR
In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required
Must be a US Citizen
General knowledge of all aspects of mechanical design and analysis including strength analysis and material behavior
Competency with 3D CAD modeling applications Unigraphics NX or similar
Competency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for mechanical design using commercial software (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN, etc.)
Competency in rotordynamic design and analysis using commercial software (e.g., XLRotor, ANSYS, ARMD, etc.)
Basic programming skills using common languages (e.g., python, MATLAB, C++, etc.)
Basic understanding of turbomachinery, including elements of aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer
Basic understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, including limited experience with commercial software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, StarCCM+, etc.)
Familiarity with various manufacturing processes including assembly of precision components, machining process capability, casting, and plastic molding practices
Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
