Job Overview

Develop and design advanced vehicle components and systems. Apply theoretical principles and engineering techniques in designing a vehicle that is reliable, serviceable, energy efficient, competitive and uses the latest technology available in the industry.

Responsibilities

Develop and design complex vehicle components and systems.

Apply theoretical principles and engineering techniques in designing a vehicle that is reliable, serviceable, energy efficient, competitive and uses the latest technology available in the industry.

Interface with engineering personnel to determine the most effective and economic materials to be used in product parts.

Interface with Test & Development personnel to analyze problems encountered in prototype development/testing.

Provide creative, technically feasible solutions.

Interface and coordinate with purchasing, vendors, BOM, manufacturing and other engineering personnel in the product development and testing phases.

Evaluate state-of-the-art developments in the vehicle industry and apply the latest advances.

Apply statistical and engineering techniques in designing and testing.

Use programming and modeling techniques in conjunction with mathematical analysis.

Interface with product regulation and compliance personnel to design vehicles that meet government regulations, restrictions and codes.

  • A Master's degree from an accredited college/university with 1 years experience OR a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university with 3 years of related experience required

  • A degree focus in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Mechatronics required

  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license within 90 days of hire preferred

  • An attached resume is required

Job Overview Freightliner Custom Chassis is looking for a "dynamic, results driven" individual to join our industry leading team in providing the very best customer experience possible. This person will significantly contribute to providing application engineering support for RV and Shuttle bus customers. The application engineer will be involved at all levels of projects requested by the customer or initiated internally. Application engineers are involved in developing projects scopes, leading small/medium level design projects, validating designs, ensuring successful chassis and body integration, and communicating project details to the customers and internal departments. Responsibilities * Provide application related technical support to customers and internal departments. Represent Freightliner Custom Chassis with energy and a passion to positively relay the company values and abilities. * Work with the customer, account manager and FCCC engineering to develop detailed and accurate project scopes that will serve as a formal agreement of the project requirements between FCCC and the customer. * Scopes will include customer needs, applicable compliance requirements, initial 3D model transfer agreements, etc. * Work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment. * Develop and release custom designs, while using general engineering practices and approved internal design guidelines. * Plan, schedule and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work. * Review chassis Pilot builds to ensure the finished product meets FCCC engineering and quality standards. * Provide on-site engineering assistance during the customer Pilot build process. * Conduct end-product quality audits to ensure successful chassis and body integration, both mechanically and electrically. * Perform reviews and manage documentation to ensure all assigned customer models are in compliance with government, Daimler Trucks North America, Freightliner Custom Chassis and chassis supplier requirements. * Manage list of external and internal activities in response to customer requests and concerns. * Monitors work progress to ensure timely completion of projects * Interface and coordinate with purchasing, suppliers, manufacturing, service, and other engineering personnel in the product development and testing phases. * Participate in and facilitate root cause analysis of technical issues by working with FCCC engineering and supplier product knowledge holders. * Develop and enhance tools to support and improve the application engineering function. * A Master's degree from an accredited college/university with 1 year related experience OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college with 3 years of related experience OR an Associate's degree from an accredited school with 5 years related experience required * A degree focus in Mechanical Engineering required * Automotive/Vehicle experience highly preferred * An attached resume is required * Ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities required * Ability to work on multiple projects required * Ability to obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License required Additional Information * Applicants must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. at the time of application * Final candidate must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check * EEO/Minorities/Females/Disabled/Veterans For an accommodation or special assistance with applying for a posted position, please contact our Human Resources department at 503-745-8982 or toll free 800-206-3369.
