ABOUT THE POSITION: We're looking for a Design Engineer II who is excited to design products that are part of our core business (motorcycle, ATV / UTV, snowmobile, work lights, signalization, etc.). Each day is different, as you'll work on a variety of tasks from creating designs with cross-functional teams, resolving issues and problems, brainstorming, making drawings and CAD models, reviewing and overseeing tests, and more!
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE: You'll bring your 5+ years of designing products within a relevant industry (injection molding, die casting, electronic packaging, etc.) along with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology. You're able to independently and cross-functionally complete engineering tasks within the product scope, balancing multiple projects at various stages of development. You enjoy teaching, coaching, and mentoring others and recommend improvements to design systems and processes. You have experience with Creo, surfacing, tolerancing, and product testing. Experience with Catia, APQP, and designing vehicle products is a plus!
HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
You will INNOVATE by:
Developing concepts including packaging studies from Customer / Sales inquiries or RFQ's
Developing concepts into manufacturable designs and products
Understanding and incorporating knowledge of regulatory and industry standards and optimized manufacturing processes into concept / design development
Using and improving design standards, best practices, tolerances, testing, etc.
Actively practicing and implementing effective problem-solving as part of NPD and other systemic issues
You will EXPLORE by:
Leading cross functional teams (CFT) to evaluate feasibility and costs of concepts while soliciting and implementing feedback & ideas into designs and products
Expanding and optimizing working knowledge of injection molding process, capabilities, and tooling
Utilizing analysis tools (calculations, FEA, etc.) and analyzing the results to recommend and determine the appropriate actions to manage risk
Developing 1-2 areas of technical expertise related to J.W. Speaker business
You will PERFORM by:
Creating and modifying moderate and core packaging models in CAD
Communicating directly with Customers and Suppliers on technical issues
Managing and advising on personal time management and priority decision to ensure timely completion of required work, including all necessary Engineering Elements for NPD and escalate as required
Mentoring other team members and lead by example
