SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer is responsible for product, tooling and process design.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product and tooling/mold design related to engineered composite plastics, cast urethanes and epoxies.
Manufacturing process design and validation.
Work with the Production Department to design and implementation of new processes.
Engineering project management from the feasibility/concept phase through product/process verification/validation.
Supporting company sales activities by providing technical assistance to assess customer/product requirements, prepare engineering and tooling cost estimates, and then design and fabricate first article parts to meet those requirements.
Travel occasionally with sales team to meet customers and attend industry-related trade shows.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
BSME, or equivalent related experience, with 2+ years of related work experience.
Experience with SolidWorks is required.
FEA or flow analysis experience is desired.
Prior work experience with elastomers, thermosets/urethanes, thermoplastics or epoxy resins is desired.
Good working knowledge of machine shop practices and prior manufacturing experience with lower-volume, custom-molding applications is desirable
Excellent communication skills and able to interact with diverse groups
Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project
Prior engineering sales experience is highly desirable, but not necessary
Prior design and development experience with defense-related products is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move about a large manufacturing facility.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to wear PPE as necessary (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, etc.).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Time is spent equally between a typical office environment and a manufacturing environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially normal controlled working environments with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.
WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE:
To conform to U.S. Government export control regulations and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information restrictions, applicant must be a U.S citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorization from the U.S. Department of State or Department of Commerce.
