Major Duties:

  • Review customer specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of the customers' design criteria, schedule and budget to create proper design criteria. Review and evaluate customer design criteria, interpret and apply design codes and standards to ensure design products conform to approved design criteria.

  • Perform calculations using RCS system, PV Elite/Code Calc, and/or Compress to determine appropriate design and associated process from concept to fabrication of heat exchangers and vessels.

  • Evaluate mechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs; apply principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.

  • Generate engineering drawings in compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, and company standards; develop technical specifications, design calculations and analytical solutions.

  • Provide a BOM (Bill of Material) to the Purchasing Department.

  • Select proper weld procedures to be used in fabrication of heat exchanger and assist in getting procedures approved for use.

  • Interface with customers to provide engineering assistance.

  • Attend pre-fabrication meetings with customers.

  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to unexpected demands due to changes in project scope or deadline. Use strong organizational skills and possess the ability to prioritize tasks to effectively handle deadline pressures without creating workflow problems for others.

  • Assist Chief Engineer and Production Managers with new and repair jobs.

  • When job is assigned, review job assignment with Chief Engineer.

  • Check generated drawings against design calculations/sketches, customer drawings and applicable codes.

  • Perform layouts as needed to verify dimensions.

  • Perform final Quality Inspections on all drawings.

  • After a design review, modify drawings as directed by Chief Engineer.

  • Manufacturing support; create CNC programs, document control, work with shop personnel.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

  • B.S. degree in related engineering discipline.

Knowledge

  • Must have working knowledge of machine design and fabrication of shell and tube heat exchanger, pressure vessels or related custom engineered equipment. Possess working knowledge of ASME code, specifically section VIII and IX. Computer aided design knowledge. Thermal design knowledge preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent engineering skills including Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Statics is imperative. Comprehension of technical specification & requirements is a must. Proven ability with higher math is essential. Ability to work with concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Strong self-drive and sense of urgency is a pre-requisite. Possess good communications in both written and verbal form. Hold strong problem solving, organizational, and time management skills. Evidence of initiative to improve personal and interpersonal skills as well as ability to work effectively with all internal and external levels and groups is a must.

Required Experience:

Auto-CAD

  • 5 years' minimum

Solidworks

  • 5 years' minimum

RCS, CodeWare (Compress), and/or PV Elite - experience in at least one is required

Must possess working knowledge of ASME (Section VIII, Div. 1) and ASME material experience

  • 3 years' minimum

ASME Section IX required for top salary

TEMA experience beneficial

Minimum 3 years Heat Exchanger Experience Required

Compensation Range: $85k to $115k dependent on schooling, degree(s) and work experience.
