ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct product design and perform engineering development and testing work on assigned projects, either individually or as part of a team

  • Create concept and design layouts of complex products or particular systems within a product

  • Develop and implement design changes in support of internal cost down initiatives

  • Develop and maintain work schedules on assigned projects

  • Create and check new drawings and update existing drawings for form, fit, and function. Checks to include BOM, tolerance analysis, material specifications, etc

  • Create, check, update, and load product bills of material in the system per procedure

  • Provide design support and analysis for issues arising in manufacturing, purchasing, quality control, and the field

  • Ensure commitments on projects are met including cost, schedule, function, performance, serviceability, and appearance

  • Ensure that all designs are reviewed for safety considerations and agency requirements

  • Assist in developing and improving engineering procedures

  • Perform additional assignments and/or duties as assigned by supervisor

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assigned to small projects or discreet tasks within functional discipline

  • Depends on others for guidance and direction

  • Still learning the fundamentals of the discipline and role but understands the key concepts

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • 2D or 3D CAD knowledge, AutoCAD, Solid Works or Pro-E software

  • Detail oriented

  • Good graphic ability

  • Self-starter, able to work with little supervision

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to represent company with a professional image

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. degree with a concentration in Engineering or related field and 0-5 years related experience or

  • Equivalent experience as a Designer (minimum 5 years related experience)

The successful candidate should be able to: * Design and project manage bridge projects for public clients at the local, county or state level. * Support client contact, marketing and the design team. * Plan, develop, and coordinate bridge engineering design projects with technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments. * Maintain relationships with individuals within or outside the organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the bridge design projects. * Provide mentoring, supervision, and overall leadership to the design group. * Knowledgeable in using industry accepted engineering and bridge design software. * Perform calculations and act as technical advisor to less experienced engineers. * Develop scopes of work, project hours and schedules. * Check accuracy of completed work. * Travel to collect field data, conduct reviews, monitor construction progress, conduct client meetings, and participate in public hearing or interview presentation. Minimum qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Civil/Transportation/Structural Engineering; Master's degree preferred. * Minimum of 5 years' experience in transportation/bridge design engineering or planning; Strongly prefer MDOT experience. * Preferred experience would include project work on complex structures as well as finite element analysis. * Experience should include seismic analysis and design. * Experience with Alternate Delivery Projects is a plus. * Professional Engineering licensure, P.E. required. and the ability to be licensed in multiple states. * Micro Station and/or AutoCAD, as well as bridge software experience is required. * Strong written and verbal communication and collaborative skills. * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
