Role Summary:

Baker Hughes, a GE company has an opening for a Design Engineer to support Completions and Wellbore Intervention tools design at our Navigation location in Houston, TX. We are looking for a Design Engineer with product design experience needed to plan, execute and manage sustaining and design engineering projects and tasks relating to BHGE OFS-CWI-Engineering & Technology.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works primarily in Mechanical engineering in product development, design, sustaining, or R&D.

  • Plans and conducts research, design and development of standard engineering assignments.

  • Assignments can be a significant portion of a larger project.

  • Selects engineering techniques to solve problems and makes sound design recommendations.

  • Assesses results for applicability, validity and conformance to specifications.

  • May be the lead engineer on smaller project with some functional supervision.

  • Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters.

  • May be assisted by entry or junior or level personnel.

  • Assists in project planning and review.

  • Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.

  • Assignments are reviewed for overall soundness and adherence to stated objectives.

  • Handles special projects, as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in either Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Petroleum, or Aerospace Engineering with 2 years of design engineering experience in Engineering with basic technical skills OR Master's Degree in either Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Petroleum, or Aerospace Engineering with 1 years of design engineering experience in Engineering with basic technical skills.

  • Proficient with 3D CAD

  • Good problem solving skills with a drive for results.

  • Good written and verbal skills.

  • Ability to build peer relationships as well as work independently.

  • Must be action oriented, ethical in value, and have a strong customer focus

  • Able to work independently and on teams; sound decision making ability

  • Able to efficiently and effectively communicate with internal/external customers, vendors and stakeholders

Desired Characteristics:

  • ProE and Solidworks experience

  • Familiar with the DMAIC process and or Six Sigma

  • Have experience with materials specification for a wide range of metals with preference for cast irons, steels, stainless steels and nickel alloys.

  • Familiar with Liner Hangers/Packers Design

  • Familiar with root cause analysis

The Lower Completions (Sand Control) Engineering group provides product design and technical support for product line equipment worldwide. Candidate will be required to assist with projects including: New Product Development, Field & Tech Support, Manufacturing & Plant support, and Qualification Testing for Lower Completion products and accessories. Essential Responsibilities: * Executes a variety of engineering responsibilities for new, modified, and existing Lower Completions products * Performs conceptual and detailed design activities, including 3D CAD design, layouts, calculations, manufacturing drawings, tolerances studies * Perform component and system analysis, identifying stress levels, design solutions, and technical risks * Conducts formal and informal product design reviews to iterate and improve product designs through continual collaboration * Design qualification testing fixtures and compose detailed test procedures * Conducts and assists in the assembly and lab testing of prototypes * Draft technical manual documentation of new products with review and approval of supervisor * Provide basic technical assistance to worldwide field operations and plant personnel for new and existing products * Assist in project planning, creating development time and cost estimates. * Handles special projects, as assigned.
