The Design Consultant is an expert in custom space design with a vast knowledge of all storage and organization solutions and products sold at The Container Store. The Design Consultant manages the customer relationship development for The Container Store's in-home, virtual and in-store customers. This position manages projects from inquiry through installation to provide a seamless customer experience and achieve sales and other goals. The Design Consultant works with customers in their homes by appointment, virtually by appointment, as well as with in-store customers when scheduled in the store.

  • Designs and sells The Container Store Custom Closets and elfa (custom closets), closet completion products and other storage and organization solutions to The Container Stores customers

  • Design and sell complete, functional and aesthetically appealing solutions

  • Manage multiple, simultaneous customer projects through all phases with a high level of accuracy, timeliness and follow-up including consistent and concise communication to customers and others. Proficient and consistent use of company communication tools and emails are required

  • Collaborate, partner and communicate with Store Leadership, Store Employees and Customer Solutions Department (CSD) teams to manage projects from inquiry to installation, and achieve sales and other goals

  • Develop clientele through networking and referrals, as well as leads generated within the store

  • Plan and execute strategies for closing sales and meeting goals

  • Enthusiastically support all company initiatives and goals by modeling and coaching best practices with store employees

  • Adhere to The Container Store training, sales and follow-up best practices, processes and philosophies in all interactions

  • Actively lead and participate in the maintenance of the custom closets showroom

  • Provide consistent feedback and observations to Store Leadership, Custom Closets Market Manager, Area Director and Regional Director on sales, service and process areas of opportunity and celebration

  • Follow appropriate procedures for handling cash and other valuables securely

  • Maintain a safe working and shopping environment, utilize all available resources, ensure safety and security of employees, customers and property

  • Assists customers with personal confidential information related to the Company credit card and application process

  • Arrive promptly to all scheduled appointments, virtually or in-store, and other required work assignments

  • Maintain discretion related to all confidential/sensitive company and customer information

  • Perform other requested tasks and duties

  • College degree preferred

  • 2-5 years outside sales experience preferred

  • Successful track record in commission-based sales

  • Maintains professional appearance and wears required dress code when representing The Container Store

  • Knowledge and passion for following trends in the Custom Closet industry

  • Reliable transportation for travel to customers' homes for scheduled appointments

  • Must have valid automobile insurance, pass appropriate state car inspection and sign vehicle inspection form

  • Must meet safety regulations including passing a Motor Vehicle Records report and a criminal background check

  • Strong computer skills: proficiency in Outlook, Word and knowledge of Excel

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently from a remote location 100% of the time based on the Company Telecommuting Policy

  • Is committed to working scheduled hours and has the flexibility to work additional hours based on changing business needs
