Legacy Traditional School Board of Directors appoints Deputy Superintendent of Academics to support management needs and priorities.

Qualifications include:

Maintain current DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card as required by law

  • Master's degree in Education/Administration/Educational Leadership

  • Arizona/Nevada principal certification

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching and school administration experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in operation of a charter school

  • Experience with alignment of curriculum to state standards

  • Demonstrated program development and implementation skills

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of school curriculum development and instructional strategies

  • Possess a working knowledge of testing and program evaluation

  • Must function effectively as a member of the administrative team

  • Possess outstanding skills in written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.

  • Works collaboratively in all facets of position to meet position requirements and support district goals

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and motivate staff.

  • Ability to organize time and activities of self and others

  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, and regulations

  • Must possess sufficient computer skills to utilize the district's word processing spreadsheet and presentation software

Duties of Deputy Superintendent of Academics

District Academic Department/Principal Supervisor

  • Establish clear expectations to improve administrator performance

  • Provide leadership in the development of instructional goals and objectives.

  • Supervise the academic department with the creation, editing and publication of district curriculum guides and other curriculum documents

  • Supervise the selection, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities designed to enhance the instructional program.

Administrative Team Leadership Development/Meeting Facilitator Support

  • Use appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals and groups toward task accomplishment

  • Provide leadership for a collaborative team to ensure that curriculum and instructional initiatives are student focused and aligned with the District's mission and beliefs, school goals and improvement plans

  • Assist principals with the implementation of instructional and staff development programs.

  • Use appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals and groups toward task accomplishment.

  • Share current trends in curriculum and best instructional practices

  • Conduct analysis of test data and prepares reports and presentations of results

  • Complete regulatory training requirements periodically

Validation/Compliance of State Regulations, Campus Operations and Program Administration

  • Oversee site administrators management of the daily operations of the school

  • Bring compliance issues to the attention of Executive Directors

  • Plan, organize, direct, supervise and evaluate instructional and accountability programs to ensure compliance with accreditation standards, regulations and administrative directives of the superintendent.

  • Supervise the administration of the state and local testing program.

  • Monitor the school buildings and property for safety and security.

District Communication

  • Assist in interpreting programs, policies, and philosophy of the District to staff, students, and community

  • Communicate policy from the Executive Directors and the School Governing Board to all site administrators

  • Receive input and concerns from all stakeholders and share with Executive Directors and site administrators

  • Establishing a cohesive culture through consistent application of policies and procedures and accountability

  • Exhibits confidence and commitment when communicating the vision and mission of the District

  • Attend meetings/conferences and share information which will promote professional growth and benefit the District

  • Maintain good public relations with parents, business, and community groups to provide information and receive feedback.

  • Serve as liaison between the State Education Department and the instructional staff of the District in communicating and planning program requirements of state statutes and mandated federal programs.

  • Promote communication and adequate information flow within the district

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with organizations to coordinate educational services and identify advocates within the staff and community

Development/Review and Implementation of Policies and Procedures and Practices

  • Conceptualize, develop and facilitate the implementation of projects in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the Executive Directors

  • Evaluate educational programs to ensure conformance to state and Governing Board standards

  • Develop and coordinate policies and procedures through meetings with LTS administration staff, review of principal's activities, and issuance of directives

  • Direct and oversee both long and short-term strategic planning and budgeting based on school goals and growth objectives

  • Creates the structure and processes necessary to manage the school's current activities and its projected growth

  • Conceptualize, develop and facilitate programs and guidelines that will impact student improvement

  • Direct the development of improvement plans based on analysis of testing results

  • Assess and interpret present and proposed curriculum and instructional programs.

  • Supervise textbook and other instructional materials selection.

  • Assist in the development of the District Academic Budget

Performance Evaluation, Staff Hiring/Corrective Action Support

  • Create a culture of excellence and set high standards of performance for self and others

  • Communicate high expectations and provide feedback as measured by performance evaluations

  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, and placement of instructional and administrative personnel

  • Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions

  • Direct and supervise the development and implementation of District performance standards

Performs all other related duties, as assigned

The Deputy Superintendent of Academics is responsible for overseeing and aligning critical district administrative functions, processes and special projects that engage multiple divisions. This position will report directly to the Chief Academic Officer.
